In commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism, which is observed internationally from November 25th, through to December 10th, the RET in Belize &SAFE Belize Project members contributed by sensitizing a total of 245 youths to strengthen their knowledge to aid in their participation in a live Youth Panel Discussion on Gender-Based Violence & Violence Against Women and Girls organized and hosted by the , , , , Child Advisory Body Belize City and . the Theme for this year is . By engaging the youth now, we can begin the work to end GBV for future generations.

Many of the factors that make women vulnerable to GBV, such as gender discrimination, poverty, natural disasters, conflict, poor education and health infrastructures, are similar to the root causes of human trafficking and serve as a push factor. That means that GBV is both an important driver of human trafficking and a tool to manipulate and control women, children and even men into both s*x work and forced labor across all forms of trafficking. Exploitation includes s*xual exploitation/abuse and forced prostitution, domestic violence, forced/early marriage, labor trafficking and organ trafficking.

Gender-based violence remains a challenge and catalyst for human trafficking. Are you ready to push for change? Then take action during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

Familial trafficking - is the abuse or exploitation of a victim at the hands of someone they know. Familial s*x trafficking, specifically, involves traffickers (who sell victims for profit) giving offenders s*xual access to victims or po*******hy in exchange for drugs, money, or something else of value. Kids are the prime targets of this heinous crime, and their perpetrators are often right in front of us, hiding in plain sight.
