CTC's kicks off 2026 Summer Job program for students

Today Mayor Rigo Vellos and the Corozal Town Council kicked off its 2026 Summer Job and Personal Development program.

25 students enrolled and will be benefitting from the initiative, which seeks to provide a healthy activity for our young people who are currently on summer break.

The students will carry out community service every morning and will also engage in personal development workshops. The Council will also support the students with a weekly stipend. This stipend will support the students' preparation for the new school year.

The Summer Job program is one of the highlights of the summer in the community. It is also supported by our business community who assist in the acquisition of light tools utilised in the program.

Building friendships across borders creates opportunities for the next generation of leaders. The Belize Youth Movement was proud to connect with a consultant related to India’s Bharatiya Janata Party.

India gained its independence in 1947, while Belize proudly became an independent nation in 1981. Although our histories are different, our countries share a commitment to democracy, development, and empowering young people.

The friendship between India and the Caribbean spans generations. From the arrival of Indian indentured laborers in parts of the Caribbean during the 19th century to today’s partnerships in education, trade, technology, and development, our regions continue to build on a foundation of mutual respect and cooperation.

During the visit, meetings were held with the People’s United Party’s Chairman, Belize Youth Movement’s National President, the Deputy Mayor of Belize City, CARICOM Youth Ambassadors, and other leaders, reaffirming a shared commitment to leadership and international friendship.

As Belize continues its journey as a young nation, there is much we can learn from countries like India whose remarkable transformation in innovation, digital governance, infrastructure, entrepreneurship, and economic development demonstrates what can be achieved through long-term vision and sustained reform.

As India has often emphasized: “Reform, Perform, Transform.” We believe international partnerships and the exchange of ideas can help inspire the next generation of Belizean leaders.
