Community Baboon Sanctuary "A Black Howler Monkey Sanctuary" Call, email, or DM for adventures and tours! The Black Howler Monkey, known as Baboon in Creole, is one of the largest monkeys found in the Americas!

The Community Baboon Sanctuary (CBS) is an innovative model of voluntary conservation that provides opportunity for everyone to experience Howler Monkeys in their natural habitat! Also known as the Yucatan Howler Monkey, they are found only in Belize, Mexico, and Guatemala, and one of the healthiest populations is right here in our sanctuary! The Community Baboon Sanctuary (CBS) in Bermudian Landi

ng, Belize is an innovative model of voluntary conservation. Landowners in seven rural villages in the Belize River Valley have signed voluntary pledges to preserve forested land along the river and in corridors along the boundaries of their property in an effort to preserve the habitat for the Black Howler Monkey (Alouata pigra) and other wildlife. The sanctuary was established on February 23rd, 1985 with the goals of CONSERVATION, EDUCATION, RESEARCH, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT and TOURISM. The Sanctuary is managed by the Community Baboon Sanctuary Women’s Conservation Group comprised of a women-only executive board representing local villages around the Sanctuary. We offer plenty of adventures at the CBS including birding tours, Horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, off-road biking, and of course, Black Howler Monkey tours. Visit to learn more about our conservation efforts and what steps you can take to keep Howler Monkeys safe. Call, email, or DM for tours and more information

At a ceremony in Bermudian Landing on Thursday March 19th, BNCF announced that two groups, the Community Baboon Sanctuary Women’s Conservation Group and Friends for Conservation and Development, will each receive fifty thousand dollars to step up their work.

The Community Baboon Sanctuary team will use the funds to ramp up environmental education in the community through hands on training and outdoor learning.

Meanwhile, FCD will channel its grant into tougher patrols and better monitoring in the threatened Chiquibul Cave System, equipping its specialized unit to crack down on illegal activity.
