📢 Maintaining Our Eyes on the Water! 🌧️📡

Under our Multi-Hazard Risk Management Capacity Building Project, we operate flood monitoring stations that require regular site clearing and maintenance to ensure their continued and reliable operation.🌿🛠️

Recently, our team cleared overgrown vegetation and removed accumulated litter around one of the stations. Excessive vegetation can shade solar panels, obstruct rain gauges, affect equipment performance, and make routine inspection and maintenance more difficult.

Keeping the station clear and accessible helps ensure the accurate collection and stable transmission of rainfall and water-level data. Reliable monitoring data are essential for tracking water conditions, assessing flood risks, and supporting timely early warnings.

Through regular maintenance, we continue to strengthen flood monitoring and disaster preparedness in Belize. 🇧🇿🤝🇹🇼

【Mandarin Parent-Child Summer Camp Graduation!】 🎉
Ending on a high note! 🎶🎤
Our Summer Camp has officially come to a wonderful close!
Children learned Mandarin through play, while parents shared priceless quality time alongside them. To top it all off, we ended the camp with a fantastic Mandarin pop hits sing-along and dance performance that filled the room with joy!
Seeing families walk away with new knowledge and happy memories is our greatest reward. A huge thank you to Formosa Cafe for their full support and for hosting, making this event a grand success. See you next time! ❤️

👟 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐒: 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐘𝐮𝐡 𝐁𝐨𝐝𝐲, 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 🇧🇿

Together with the Ministry of Health & Wellness and CARPHA Caribbean Public Health Agency, we supported the delivery of the 𝘽𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚 𝙈𝙊𝙑𝙀𝙎 𝙄𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 and its 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙡𝙖𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙝, marking an important milestone in this nationwide movement to promote healthy eating, physical activity, and preventive health checkups.

The workshop and official launch brought stakeholders from across Belize together around a shared commitment: turning schools, workplaces, and communities into environments that support healthier living. Through coordinated national action, 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐒 aims to make healthy choices easier and more sustainable, ultimately reducing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases.

Through the 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀, we believe prevention begins where people live, learn, work, and connect. By promoting active lifestyles and healthier choices, 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐒 represents another important step toward reducing the burden of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and other NCDs.

🥳For a cleaner and more sustainable Belize! 給貝里斯一個乾淨永續的未來🧐~~

This past week, the Taiwan Technical Mission (TaiwanICDF)🇹🇼 and the Belize Solid Waste Management Authority (BSWaMA) 🇱🇦collaborated on a series of technical visits across Belize City, the Cayo District, and Punta Gorda to assess transfer stations, medical waste management at the Western Regional Hospital and Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, 🚑as well as incinerators and open dumping sites.🥳🥳
The delegation benefited from the expertise of Hsui-Ching Lu, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Renato Lab, and Chia-Hsiang Wang, Section Chief of the Resource Circulation Administration (RCA), Ministry of Environment (MOENV). Their findings and recommendations are aimed at strengthening Belize's waste management practices to promote sustainable practices.
The closing stakeholder meeting was attended by Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management; Kenneth Williams, Acting Director, BSWaMA; Tyronne Chimilio, Public Relations Officer, BSWaMA; Lizett Bell, Deputy Director of Health Services - Nursing; Nahir Matus, Officer at the Department of the Environment; Andrew Su, Chief of the Taiwan Technical Mission; Anthony Huang, Third Secretary, Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with other valued stakeholders.
Together, we can turn these recommendations into meaningful action and build a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Belize.

🌱 𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙉𝘾𝘿 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝘼𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨 𝘽𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚 🌎

From June 30 to July 3, healthcare professionals came together in Belmopan, Punta Gorda, Belize City, and San Pedro for this year's NCD Workshops under the 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀.

This year marked another exciting milestone as we welcomed healthcare professionals from both the public and private sectors, creating more opportunities to exchange experiences and strengthen collaboration in metabolic chronic disease care.

Over the past three years, these workshops have reached healthcare professionals in six districts and San Pedro, bringing continuous professional development to nearly every region of Belize.

From Taiwan's shared care experience to Belize's local expertise, participants explored practical approaches to metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, CKM syndrome, diabetic foot care, health education, and even AI tools for health promotion.

🧐SICA-OPESCA and Taiwan collaborate to assess freshwater shrimp🦐 farming in Belize.🤩~~

Last week, the OPESCA-SICA and TTM team visited the freshwater shrimp farms managed by students at the Belize High School of Agriculture in Orange Walk and Saint Viator Professional School in Corozal. The visits formed a part of an ongoing assessment to evaluate the viability of freshwater shrimp in Belize.

This collaborative initiative is assessing local conditions, production potential, and sustainability opportunities to determine whether freshwater shrimp cultivation can become a viable addition to Belize’s aquaculture sector and create new opportunities for economic growth within Belize’s blue economy.
