As a child, Hailey received Starfish Packs.

Today, she works closely with the program through her role at Save On Foods where she goes the extra mile to support the program in providing fresh, nutritious foods to children across Abbotsford.

โ€œWhen people see a Starfish pack, they donโ€™t always realize how many people are involved. From the warehouse staff and delivery drivers to the volunteers packing bags, the coordinator, donors, and everyone in between โ€“ everybody matters. We all play a role in making sure children have equitable access to food.โ€
-Hailey, former Starfish Pack recipient

August 31st marks International Overdose Awareness Day.

This year's theme, "25 Years On. Still Needed.", commemorates 25 years of raising awareness about overdose, honouring the lives lost, supporting those who grieve, and advocating for action to prevent overdose-related deaths.

Overdose continues to affect individuals, families, and communities across our region. By promoting education, increasing awareness, supporting harm reduction initiatives, and improving access to services, we can help reduce risks and save lives.

Together, we can create a future where stigma is replaced with understanding, where compassion guides our actions, and where everyone has the opportunity to access the support they need.

International Overdose Awareness Day is observed each year on August 31st to remember those who have lost their lives to overdose and to acknowledge the families, friends, and communities impacted by their loss.

To mark this day, here are a few community events taking place across Abbotsford to honour the strength, resilience, and experiences of those affected by the toxic drug crisis.

If you or someone you know is experiencing challenges related to substance use, free support services are available through the Abbotsford Addictions Centre.
