Every year, the BC Chicken Growers Association putt their heart into the Chicken Golf Tournament, and this year was no exception! 🏌️‍♀️🐔

By swinging for a cause, they raised over $72,000 in support of our Starfish Pack Program, enough to provide over 80 children with food throughout the school year. ❤️

Behind every dollar is a child who is getting the nutrition they need to thrive. That’s what makes this tournament such a powerful and meaningful impact in our community.

A huge thank you to the BC Chicken Growers Association, golfers, sponsors, and everyone who helped make this incredible day possible!

Huge thank you to Walmart Canada for raising $27,270 through their campaign! These funds directly support nearly all aspects of running the food bank, from the purchase of both fresh and non-perishable foods to making sure our trucks are filled with gas. We are so incredibly grateful for their support!

Did you know that we rely on the Fresh Food Recovery program to reduce food waste and provide access to a variety of nutritious food for people in our community. To do this work we partner with local grocery stores and charity partners to collaborate around food access. Costco is a star when it comes to daily food recovery! In 2025 they donated 63,419 KGs of food. Thank you Costco for ensuring families in our community have access to the nutrition they need!

Please note that the Archway Food Bank will be closed on Monday, August 3rd for the BC Day statutory holiday. Services will resume on Tuesday, August 4th.

BC Day also offers an opportunity to reflect on the beauty of our home on the unceded lands of the many diverse Indigenous peoples who lived here before us and who continue to live alongside us. It is a time to consider how we can better protect and support both this land and the communities connected to it.

A huge thank you to the Fire Fighters Association L2864 for their generous donation of $15,000 for the Starfish Pack program. With their help over 17 children will have access to a pack full of food each weekend throughout the school year. A special congratulations on the successful first golf tournament!

Food can mean so much more than fuel for the body. It carries our history, strengthens our social bonds, and brings both comfort and joy. That's why culturally preferred foods are so important; they provide not only nourishment, but also a sense of connection and belonging. Whether it's cooking recipes that have been passed down through generations or preparing traditional dishes that connect us to our ancestry, religion, or community.

Unfortunately, culturally preferred foods are not always consistently available through food donations. That's why we were so grateful to receive a grant from the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, which allowed us to provide Atta flour to the families we serve.

Atta flour is a staple ingredient used to make foods such as roti and chapati. By including it in our food hampers, households were able to prepare meals that were meaningful, familiar, and culturally appropriate for their families.

Thank you for helping provide not only nourishment, but also comfort, dignity, and a taste of home.

A huge thank you to Abbotsford trainer JP Siou for taking on an incredible challenge in support of the Summer Starfish Pack Program.

On June 20, JP ran an astounding 100 km from sunrise to sunset, more than 16 hours on his feet to help ensure local children have access to healthy, nutritious food throughout the summer months.

Thanks to JP’s dedication and the generosity of our community, he raised an AMAZING $15,436! 🎉

JP, thank you for going the extra mile — literally — to support children and families in our community. Your determination, compassion, and commitment are truly inspiring!

Last month, more than 250 community members gathered to enjoy a variety of cultural foods at the third annual Taste Around the World event, hosted by the Archway Food Justice program in collaboration with local community partners.

The multicultural food-sharing event celebrated the rich cultural diversity within Abbotsford and brought community members together through the sharing of traditional recipes, stories, and cultural experiences.

Attendees had the chance to sample dishes created by four volunteer cooking teams representing Saudi Arabia, Okinawa, India, and Ukraine.

A big thank you to the City of Abbotsford’s Culture City Program Series for funding this event and to United Way British Columbia for supporting the Archway Food Justice Program through its Regional Community Food Hubs Initiative.

We are also grateful to The Gathering Church for providing kitchen space for volunteer cooks, the Abbotsford Community Foundation for contributing event materials, and Clearbrook Library for hosting the event.
