🌱 Community Volunteer Call – Abbotsford
BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation is looking for community volunteers to help restore their Pencil Patch K–12 educational garden, which was damaged by flooding earlier this year (see pictures). This garden plays an important role in hands-on agricultural education for students, and extra hands are needed to help get it back on its feet.
🛠️ Volunteer activities may include:
• General debris clean-up
• Moving unsalvageable materials to an on-site dumpster
• Dismantling a small goat shelter and disposal of building materials
• Return the observation platform for the wetlands back onto the foundational blocks
• Replacing wheelchair ramps for the greenhouse
• Planting high-bush blueberries
• etc.
đź‘ź What to expect:
• Physical outdoor work (lifting, bending, some power tool use)
• 3–4 hours depending on volunteer numbers
• Refreshments provided
• Mon-Fri washroom available at Ministry of Agriculture
🧤 What to bring:
• Sturdy footwear (boots recommended – ground may be very wet)
• Work gloves
• Warm, weather-appropriate clothing you don’t mind getting dirty
