***Drug Alert - Maple Ridge - June 12, 2026***

Light brown granules sold as Down were found to contain very high concentrations of Carfentanil, a very toxic fentanyl analog.

Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid that is 50-100 times more potent than fentanyl. It is primarily used in veterinary medicine for large animals and is not intended for human use. Naloxone can reverse its effects, but multiple doses may be necessary. Monitor the person's breathing before administering more naloxone.

Friends, family, and community members using unregulated substances may face increased risk of overdose from injection, inhalation, and ingestion.

Today, on MMIWG2S Red Dress Day, ROAR (Reducing Overdose, Abbotsford Response) holds profound space for the immense grief and righteous rage carried by Indigenous communities. We acknowledge the disproportionate impacts of our work in the toxic drug crisis on First Nations people and stand in solidarity with all affected families.

Our commitment is rooted in ongoing decolonizing work, deep listening, and weaving cultural safety into every aspect of our community interactions. This dedication is realized through strong partnerships, notably with Telmexwáwtexw Healing Center/Sts’ailes, and is continually guided by Indigenous community members and especially those with living expertise in the toxic drug crisis.

To honor this solemn occasion and hold space for the deeply personal experiences and reflections it brings up, we invite you to our Circle of Care: Reflections on MMIWGS (Red Dress Day).

Join us this Thursday, May 7th, at 11 am at Trinity Memorial United Church for a gathering that includes:

▪️Lunch
This space is intended for community, support, and shared reflection, ensuring a respectful and safe environment for all.

‼️Drug Poisoning Alert - Surrey/White Rock - April 16, 2026‼️

There has been an increase in toxic drug poisonings in Surrey and White Rock over the past week.

The current supply contains multiple high potency substances. Combining multiple depressants can lead to complex overdoses.

Naloxone will reverse the effects of opioids if present, but it does not reverse effects of benzodiazepines or tranquilizers. Individuals may not regain consciousness and require longer monitoring. Check breathing, responsiveness, and pulse. If at any time there is no pulse, start CPR with rescue breathing and compressions. Use an AED if available. Monitor breathing, before administering more naloxone.

Friends, family, and community members using unregulated substances may face increased harms of unknowingly taking different substances than intended.

We have seen what is possible when governments respond to a public health emergency with urgency — and yet, this crisis continues without the same level of action, despite the ongoing and preventable loss of life.

On April 14th, ROAR invites you to join us in community as we gather to remember, grieve, and stand together.

At 2:00 pm, we will join communities across BC for a moment of silence and a moment of rage — honouring those we’ve lost and calling for meaningful, evidence-based action.

We have seen what is possible when governments respond to a public health emergency with urgency — and yet, this crisis continues without the same level of action, despite the ongoing and preventable loss of life.
