🚧 Five Span Bridge update from Lanark County

Work continues to move forward on Phase 2 of the Five Span Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Pakenham!

According to Lanark County Public Works, the cap stones are now about 90% installed and crews have begun installing electrical conduits. The northeast abutment has also been excavated to make way for a new retaining wall.

πŸ› οΈ Did you know? During excavation, crews uncovered what appears to be an old corduroy road, which may have been part of the original approach to the wooden bridge built in 1886.

Work on the bridge approaches, including grading and drainage improvements, remains on schedule.

⚠️ REMINDER: The park entrance will be temporarily closed tomorrow (Wednesday, September 2) while crews install electrical conduit beneath the entrance. Digital signage is in place to notify visitors.

🚍 As students head back to school on Wednesday, please help keep everyone safe by watching for school buses, crossing guards and children near roadways. 🚸

When a school bus has its red lights flashing:
πŸ›‘ Slow down and be prepared to stop
πŸ›‘ Stop at least 20 metres (about five car lengths) away
πŸ›‘ Do not pass the bus from either direction
πŸ›‘ Remain stopped until the lights stop flashing and the bus is moving again

At school crossings:
🚘 Drivers
βœ… Stop when the crossing guard enters the roadway
βœ… Wait until all children and the guard are safely off the road
βœ… Do not pass near a school crossing

🚢Students and pedestrians
βœ… Wait for the crossing guard's signal
βœ… Walk, don't run
βœ… Look both ways before crossing

The start of the school year means more children walking, cycling and crossing our roads. Please take extra care near schools, bus stops and crossings.
