Yesterday I had the joy of attending the Mawio’mi – Indigenous Services and Town and County Truth and Reconciliation event at Amherst Regional High School.

It was an honour to carry the Nova Scotia flag as part of the gathering, and such a meaningful experience to see our community come together.

I especially loved the moment when everyone joined in the dance together. Seeing students from throughout Cumberland County, along with community members, participating and celebrating side by side was truly wonderful.

Gatherings like this are important. Truth and Reconciliation is about listening, learning, building relationships and coming together with respect and understanding.

I was especially encouraged to see so many young people participating. Their enthusiasm and willingness to learn and engage gives me great hope for the future.

Thank you to everyone who organized the Mawio’mi, to those who generously shared their culture, traditions and knowledge, and to all of the students, educators and community members who participated.

It was a beautiful day of community, culture and connection, and I am grateful to have been part of it. ❤️

I’m sharing a free online session being offered by trauma therapist Kristina Fifield: Trauma-Sensitive Care & Movement Practices for Survivors & Community.

This gentle space is open to survivors, therapists, other helping professionals and anyone feeling affected by these conversations. There is no expectation to participate in any particular way. You are welcome to move, pause, rest or simply be.

Caregiver Education Series Coming to Amherst 💙
Caring for a loved one who has been diagnosed with dementia can be rewarding, but it can also bring many questions, challenges and difficult decisions.
The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia is offering a free 5-week Caregiver Education Series in Amherst for family members and unpaid care partners of people who have recently been diagnosed with dementia.
Participants will learn about dementia symptoms, coping strategies, future planning and community resources that may help families along the way. CES Amherst (1)(1)

It was a pleasure to be with fellow Rotarians as the Amherst Rotary Club presented its 2026 Distinguished Service Award to Trina Clarke.

Trina’s leadership has made an extraordinary difference in our community. Since becoming CEO of the Cumberland YMCA, she has helped transform the organization, expanding its reach in childcare, youth services, recreation, affordable housing and community supports across Cumberland County.

What I appreciate most is that Trina’s leadership has always been grounded in service. She sees what our community needs, brings people together and works hard to make things happen. The growth of the YMCA and its impact throughout Cumberland County are a reflection of that commitment.

As a fellow Rotarian, I was especially pleased to be there to see Trina receive this recognition. I am so grateful for everything she has contributed to our community over the years, and I know there is still much more to come.

Congratulations, Trina, on this very well-deserved Distinguished Service Award, and thank you for your leadership, vision and dedication to the people of Cumberland County.

Today I joined others for the annual first responders memorial parade and service. Thank you to Reverend Jeff White at the First Baptist Church for leading a thoughtful service today that provided time for reflection and gratitude for all those who put their life in the line for all of us during times of danger.
Today Raymond and Noah MacDonald laid a wreath in honour of their wife and mother whom I loved and miss every day - Christine MacDonald.
I’m so grateful our community takes the time to think those who serve and remember those who have served and are no longer with us.
I love our people and our community.
