Mi’kmaw History Month

This October, we invite you to explore our book display celebrating Mi’kmaw history, culture, language, knowledge, and contemporary life.

The 2026 theme for Mi’kmaw History Month is Nepisulti’k - We Are Healing, a reminder that healing is a lifelong journey rooted in understanding ourselves, our histories, our relationships, and our connections to one another.

Books and stories are an important way to learn, listen, and deepen our understanding. We encourage you to browse the display, discover a new author or perspective, and take some time to learn more about Mi’kmaw histories and experiences.

HOCO:
For alumni, it’s a chance to return to 'X', reconnect with old friends, and see how the campus and the people who made it home- have changed over the years.

For students, it’s a chance to catch up with recently graduated friends, cheer on a sports team, take in the campus events, and, of course, enjoy a meal.

No matter when you called 'X' home, HOCO is a chance to come back, catch up, and make a few new memories.

Happy HOCO 1966! 🎉

Today is Treaty Day, commemorating the importance of the Peace and Friendship Treaties of the 1700s signed between the Mi’kmaq and their Indigenous allies, and the British. These treaties secured peace. The Mi’kmaq agreed to stop hostilities towards the British, and in return, the British agreed to not interfere with Mi’kmaw hunting, fishing, and harvesting. Mi'kma'ki was never conquered and remains Mi'kmaw territory today. We all have duties and obligations as treaty people.

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The Library is closed today as we take time to reflect, learn, and remember.

Consider marking the day by attending a local event, such as the Orange Ribbon Tying Ceremony at 5:30 in the Mulroney Atrium, or by taking time to read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s reports and Calls to Action.

🧡 Learn. Reflect. Remember. Act.
