Local history states the name Arrowwood was taken from the Blackfoot Indian words, "Mistat Katpiskoo", which means Wood Village. This could be possible as the site of the Village is situated on land that was once part of the Blackfoot Reservation. The first post office with the name, Arrowwood, was applied for in 1908 and was situated 8 km south and 3 km west of the present village. Surrounded by

choice farmland, Arrowwood lies between the east and west Arrowwood creeks with the Bow River 5 km north and the Buffalo Hills to the south. Many thousands of acres of good grass and an abundance of good water make this area an ideal spot for ranchers. This beautiful village offers a delicious home style dining restaurant and an amazing library. A local history museum includes construction of the Bow River Irrigation System, Dukabour Settlements, the old General Store, and scrap books of events and residents of the past. The village has a car wash, major bank, full hook-up rv park, cardlock gas station, churches, a school from kindergarten to grade nine, and a brand new Co-op hardware and tire shop. Arrowwood is nestled almost in the middle of three mid size shopping areas. Vulcan, 38 km south west, Strathmore, 38 km north west, and Okotoks, 37 km west. If one needs to do major shopping, Calgary is an hour north west of Arrowwood.

📢 Community Reminder: Summer Parking & Boulevard Care

🚙Hello Arrowwood! We hope everyone is having a fantastic, safe, and active summer season.With many of us heading out on road trips or using our holiday trailers over the sunny months, the Village would like to share a quick, friendly reminder regarding parking on our municipal boulevards (both the grass and gravel sections).
Our shared village boulevards are important pieces of infrastructure that house underground utilities, keep our drainage clear, and offer short-term parking spaces for visitors and neighbors.
To keep things fair, safe, and beautiful for everyone, please keep these standard village guidelines in mind:

🏕️ Travel & Holiday Trailers: Our village bylaws fully support our local campers! Residents are welcome to park active travel trailers out front from May to October for easy cleaning, packing, loading, and unloading between your summer adventures.

📦 Utility & Commercial Trailers: Unlike travel trailers, flatbeds, utility trailers, and commercial haulers cannot be left unattached on public boulevards or roadways. They must remain actively hitched to a towing vehicle.

🚗 Vehicles Staged for Sale: While short-term residential parking is always standard, public boulevards cannot be used as permanent or long-term storage lots to display and sell private property. Leaving stationary trailers or vehicles in one spot for weeks blocks shared parking spaces and permanently damages our green infrastructure.

👉Our Goal: We want everyone to fully enjoy their travel trailers all the way through the October seasonal window! We simply ask that unattached utility trailers be moved to private driveways, and that items being actively sold are not stored long term on public grass.

Routine municipal updates will continue to ensure our rights-of-way stay clear, neat, and accessible for everyone—including emergency vehicles.

⏰Monday July, 6th at the Arrowwood Museum at 10:00 am.

This is a completely casual, open-door opportunity to meet local law enforcement and your municipal leadership in a relaxed setting. There are no formal speeches, no strict agendas, and no PowerPoint presentations. Instead, this is your time to ask questions, share your neighborhood ideas, voice community concerns, or simply sit down and get to know the people working to keep our area safe and thriving.

🩺 Arrowwood Health Committee: Coming this September! 🩺

As we look ahead to the fall, the Village of Arrowwood is laying the groundwork to start a new Rural Health Attraction Committee.

We are teaming up with our local Doctor to make sure our village stays a vibrant, well-served community.We know everyone is busy heading into summer, so we aren't holding meetings just yet.
Right now, we just want to see who might be interested in attending a short info session in September.
If you want to be notified when the September date is set, please call, email, comment below or drop in the office to let us know.
