Community Living Atikokan

Community Living Atikokan Community Living Atikokan is a community based organization dedicated to promoting the acceptance and value of all persons.

It is our belief that all persons deserve respect and dignity, and have the right to be an integral part of their community. As a means of fulfilling this goal, Community Living Atikokan plays an active role in identifying the needs of those we serve, and providing support to enhance independence and growth. We offer this through residential services, supported employment, transitional assistance, as well as daily leisure and recreational programs.

What a fantastic evening at Community Living Atikokan’s Annual Community Bar-B-Q! ☀️🌭🍔🎶

We were treated to beautiful weather, incredible food, live music, and — best of all — an amazing turnout from the community. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to enjoy great conversation, laughter, and community spirit.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success. We are incredibly grateful for the generous donations brought for the Food Bank, showing once again the caring and supportive nature of the Atikokan community. 💙💚

Events like this remind us what community is all about — connection, inclusion, and coming together to support one another.

A huge thank you as well to all of the staff, volunteers, performers, and supporters who helped make the evening possible!

This afternoon's Community Living Month event was filled with laughter, teamwork, and community spirit as teams took part in CLA’s Community Living Scavenger Hunt!

Teams spent the afternoon out and about in Atikokan collecting items, exploring the community, meeting new people and snapping creative photos along the way. From fun challenges to memorable moments, everyone had a fantastic time connecting, working together, and celebrating inclusion in our community while working up an appetite for this evening’s CLA Community BBQ 🍔🌭

Congratulations to Team Can DO It! for taking home the top spot in this year’s scavenger hunt! 🎉🏆

A special highlight of the day was the opportunity for teams to stop and take a required picture with Mayor Rob Ferguson during their adventures around town.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event such a success. Community Living Month is all about belonging, inclusion, and celebrating the strengths of people working together — and this event truly captured that spirit! 💙💚

Hoping to see you at 5pm! 🌭🍔🌞

2026 Staff Excellence Award Presentation

Each year at our Staff Appreciation Dinner, we take a moment to recognize an individual who truly exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond in their role at Community Living Atikokan.

The Staff Excellence Award was created to recognize performance excellence and meaningful contributions to the overall mission of our organization. This award honours an employee who not only fulfills their responsibilities but consistently demonstrates extra effort, commitment, and care in everything they do.

This year, we received several thoughtful nominations. The nominees for the 2026 Staff Excellence Award are Rosie Natti, Brendan Turner, Marie Kehler, and Destinee Zacharius.

With the strength and dedication of our entire team, it’s important to recognize that many more staff are equally deserving of this recognition. The commitment shown across Community Living Atikokan continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we support.

The following comments were shared through this year’s nominations for our award recipient:
~ They are an exceptional team player—always willing to step in, pick up shifts, and support colleagues across programs without hesitation.
~ They demonstrate a calm, steady presence, particularly in challenging situations, helping to de-escalate and create positive outcomes for the people we support.
~ They are compassionate, respectful, and consistently professional in their interactions with both Members and staff.
~ They lead by example through their reliability, humility, and genuine care for others.

It is clear from these nominations that this individual not only supports the people we support but also strengthens our entire organization through their dedication and approach to their work.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is our pleasure to announce that the 2026 Staff Excellence Award recipient is… Marie Kehler.

Congratulations, Marie, and thank you for the outstanding contribution you make to Community Living Atikokan every single day.

🌱 May is Community Living Month – Giving Back to Our Community 🌱

Community isn’t just where we live—it’s where we connect, contribute, and belong. For the people we support, being part of a vibrant, welcoming community is essential. It creates opportunities to build relationships, share talents, and feel valued for who they are.

When we give back, we’re not just helping others—we’re strengthening inclusion, breaking down barriers, and demonstrating that everyone has something meaningful to offer. Whether it’s volunteering, lending a hand, or simply spreading kindness, every action helps create a community where everyone can shine.

Throughout the month, our teams and the people we support will be out in the community making a positive impact. 💚

🍔 Don’t forget to join us for Community Living Atikokan’s Annual Community BBQ on Wednesday, May 27 from 5:00–7:00 PM at 118 Gorrie St. Everyone is welcome! Admission is a donation to the Food Bank, so come out for burgers, smokies, great company, and a chance to celebrate community together.

Let’s continue building a community where everyone truly belongs.
