It can be hard to imagine that some older adults experience harm or neglect, often in silence. That’s why awareness matters.

Today on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), we take a moment to reflect on how we can all help ensure seniors feel safe, respected and supported in our communities.

By learning the signs, checking in on one another and speaking up, we can all play a role in preventing elder abuse and supporting older adults with dignity and care.

Thank you to the entertainment sponsor of the in York Region, Memory and Company.

We appreciate your support of the Walk and people living with dementia and their caregivers in our community.

06/06/2026

The in York Region was an inspiring reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together for families impacted by dementia. Thank you to all of those who joined us for a day of fun, connection, and hope. Together, we have raised over $173,000, all of it staying local. Check out a few of our favourite moments from the Walk!

Did you miss Walk day? There is still time to take part.

With walk in a box, you can organize your own walk with friends, family, colleagues or neighbours. Choose a sunny day, walk in honour or memory of someone special, and help raise funds that provide local programs and services for people living with dementia and those who care for them.

Because every walk helps create connection, hope and access to the critical support families need.

We can’t wait to talk to you about your fun walk in the box event. Contact Karen at [email protected]
