Since 1986, the Alzheimer Society of York Region (AS York) has offered support for families impacted by dementia. Demand for local programs and services has continued to grow, and now, 40 years later, over 21,000 families in York Region are impacted by the disease.

The generosity of our community has made it possible for AS York to grow over time. To mark 40 years of service, AS York is introducing The Giving Circle. This community of compassionate monthly donors offers a circle of support, providing steady, reliable care that individuals and families can count on throughout every stage of their journey with dementia.

Because dementia doesn’t stop – and neither should care.

September is World Alzheimer’s Month. This year’s theme from Alzheimer’s Disease International says it clearly: the earlier you know, the more you can do. An earlier and accurate dementia diagnosis can open the door to treatment, support, education, and planning. Yet fear and stigma still prevent many people from seeking help, in Canada and around the world. This September, let’s change that. Together, we can help more Canadians living with dementia and their care partners get the support they deserve.

💡Happy Tip Tuesday!

Today's Tip: As we head into the final long weekend of summer, we know that many will be hosting social gatherings with friends, family, and their community. When planning a social gathering that will include a person living with dementia, designate a quiet space where the person can sit if needed. Having this space planned in advance allows you to include the person living with dementia in the festivities in a more comfortable and less overwhelming way.

Stay tuned every Tuesday for more tips to come.
