🚒🚗 Auto Extrication Demo | Open House 2026

From a brand new vehicle to a rescue demonstration! 🚨

At our open house on October 4th, our firefighters demonstrated some auto extrication scenarios using a vehicle generously donated by Toyota. These demonstrations give our firefighters the opportunity to showcase the tools, training, and techniques used to safely remove patients from vehicles following a motor vehicle collision.

A huge thank you to Toyota for donating the vehicle and making this demo possible, and to everyone who came out to support our open house! 🔥

We’re grateful to our community for taking the time to meet our firefighters, explore our fire hall, and learn more about what we do!

🚒 Stuff a Truck - Neighbours Helping Neighbours 🍁

Yesterday, some of our firefighters were at Foodland for the neighbours helping neighbours stuff a truck event.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, donated, and helped support this great community initiative. It’s always amazing to see our community come together. ❤️

We’re proud to be part of a community that looks out for one another, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make yesterday’s event a success!

🔋 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | DAY 5 🔥

🚪Keep exits clear. Your escape route could save your life!

Lithium ion battery powered devices, such as e-bikes and electric scooters, can pose a dire risk if their batteries overheat or fail. Where you charge and store these devices matters!

❌ Never charge or store e-bikes, scooters, or other lithium ion battery powered devices near doorways or escape routes.

✅ Keep exits, hallways and doorways clear at all times.
✅ Charge and store battery powered devices in a safe location away from exits.
✅ Make sure everyone in your home has a clear path to get out in an emergency.

If a battery fire occurs, a device blocking your exit could prevent you from escaping safely.

Don’t let your next charge block your way out. Keep exits clear and charge safely! 🚒

🔋 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | DAY 5 🚒

Off-brand isn’t worth the risk!⚡️

When charging devices powered by lithium-ion batteries, the charger you use matters. Always use the charger recommended or approved by the manufacturer for your specific device.

Using an incompatible or poor quality charger can increase the risk of overheating, battery damage, and potentially a fire.

✅ Use the manufacturer recommended charger.
✅ Check charging cables and adapters for damage.
✅ Charge on a hard, flat surface away from anything that can burn.
❌ Avoid unverified chargers or accessories that may not meet appropriate safety standards.

Your phone, tools, and other rechargeable devices are part of everyday life, but safe charging should always be a priority.

🔋 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | DAY 4 🔥

Know the warning signs of a damaged battery.

Swollen, leaking, discoloured, or unusually smelling batteries can be signs that a battery is damaged and may become unstable. Damaged batteries can overheat, spark, or even catch fire if they aren’t handled properly.

⚠️ If you notice any of these warning signs:
❌ Don’t use or charge the battery.
❌ Don’t put it in your garbage or recycling.
❌ Don’t place a damaged battery in a regular battery collection box.
✅Keep it away from anything that can burn and contact your municipality for safe disposal instructions.

When it comes to damaged batteries, WHEN IN DOUBT… KEEP IT OUT!

A few simple precautions can help prevent battery-related fires and keep our homes and community safe. 🚒

🔋 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | DAY 3 🔥

Don’t throw batteries in the garbage or recycling!

Even when they’re no longer useful, batteries can still hold a charge. If they’re damaged or if their terminals come into contact with metal or other barriers, they can spark, overheat, and potentially cause a fire.

Instead:
🔋Collect used batteries in a safe, non metal container.
⚡️Protect battery terminals with tape or place batteries in individual bags when required.
♻️Drop off your batteries at an approved battery recycling location.

🚨 Have a damaged, swollen, leaking, or recalled battery? Don’t put it in a battery collection box. Contact your municipality for safe disposal options.

A few extra steps can help keep batteries - and our home and communities safe.

Dispose responsible. Stay fire safe. 👨‍🚒

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | DAY 2 🔥

Charge safely! 📱🔋

Did you know that where you charge your phone matters? Charging your phone on your bed, pillow, couch, or other soft surfaces can trap heat and increase the risk of a fire if the battery or device overheats.

Instead, always charge your device on a hard, flat surface with good airflow around it.

❌ Don’t charge your phone under your pillow or blankets.
✅ Use a hard, flat surface like a nightstand, desk, or table.
🔥 Keep charging devices away from anything that can burn.

It’s a small change that can make a big difference when it comes to fire safety.

CHARGE SAFELY. STAY SAFE. 🚨

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | OCTOBER 4-10

This week, we’re joining fire departments across Ontario in recognizing Fire Prevention Week - a time to focus on simple steps we can all take to prevent fires and keep our homes, families, and communities safe.

Fire safety starts before the fire. From making sure your smoke alarms are working and having a home escape plan, to using appliances and electronics safely, small actions can make a big difference.

This year’s theme is 🔋CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY🔋. Highlighting the importance of safely using and charging lithium-ion batteries found in many of the devices we use every day.

🚨 Throughout fire prevention week, we’ll be sharing some important fire safety reminders and tips to help you stay prepared.

Take a few minutes this week to check your home, talk with your family, and make fire safety a priority.

PREVENT. PREPARE. PROTECT.
