A unique exhibit complex where models, replicas, photo displays, artifacts and films describe the fascinating life and work of Alexander Graham Bell. Special events such as Harvest Home complement the program of activities offered on this site, which is situated on 10 hectares of land overlooking Baddeck Bay on the Bras d'Or Lakes.

Please be advised that Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site will be closed today, Sunday, September 6, 2026.

A local state of emergency has been declared in Victoria County. In response to the current conditions, we have decided to remain closed today.

Visitor safety is Parks Canada’s top priority. We will continue to monitor conditions and provide regarding reopening.

On September 1, the Government of Canada announced significant investments in infrastructure improvements at several Parks Canada-administered places across Cape Breton Island/Unama’ki and in Canso.

The investments will support projects that improve public safety, enhance visitor experiences, strengthen climate resilience and preserve nationally significant heritage. Projects include roadway, bridge and trail improvements, visitor infrastructure upgrades, and heritage conservation at sites including Cape Breton Highlands National Park and Alexander Graham Bell, Fortress of Louisbourg, Canso Islands, Marconi, and St. Peters Canal national historic sites.

Discover the connections between two places that shaped Alexander Graham Bell’s story during a free public lecture on September 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., right here at Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site!

Brian Wood, retired curator of Bell Homestead National Historic Site, will explore Bell’s work in Brantford, Ontario, including his 1876 telephone tests and the evolution of the home telephone through vintage advertisements.

Don’t let the scaffolding fool you!

Today marks 70 years since the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site museum building opened its doors, and here’s to 70 more! 🎉 On a rainy Cape Breton day, it’s also the perfect time to stop in, explore the museum, and celebrate a little history. We are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until October 30, 2026! Come see us!

While infrastructure updates are underway at Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, The Museum Store at Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site has moved to a temporary building in the parking area outside of the museum.

Stop by and browse the selection of books, kites, educational toys, souvenirs, and other items. 🪁📚🛍️

The Museum Store is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

From the rooftop patio at Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, take a moment to look out over the Bras d'Or Lake, Pitu’paq in Mi’kmaw, meaning "to which all things flow."

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Alexander Graham Bell's 13-kilometre voice transmission between Brantford and Paris, Ontario, the first long-distance telephone call!

To celebrate this remarkable milestone, join us and The Museum Store at Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site for a free special lecture on Monday, August 10, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site.

Guest speaker, Aaron Dyck, telecommunications advisor with Shared Services Canada, will explore the history of long-distance communication in Canada and the innovations that forever changed the way we connect.
