National Day of Indigenous Languages 🪶

Languages carry the spirit of a people. They hold knowledge, stories, and deep connections to the land.

Across Unama’ki (Cape Breton) and throughout Mi’kma’ki, Mi’kmaw continues to be spoken and shared, linking generations past, present, and future.

Today, we recognize the strength and resilience of L’nui’suti, the Mi’kmaw language. Its continued use is a powerful expression of culture and identity.

Learn a few Mi’kmaw words:
🌿 Kwe’ (gway) Hello
🔥 Pjila’si (buh-jih-lah-see) Welcome
🌊 Wela’lin (way-lah-lin) Thank you
🌲 Nemultes (neh-mool-des) See you later

Take time today to listen, learn, and reflect on the importance of all Indigenous languages. Each one is a vital part of living cultures around the world.
