Wilmot brought rural priorities to the provincial stage at this year’s Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference.

Mayor Natasha Salonen and Councillor Stewart Cressman met with provincial leaders to advocate for rural transit, long-term infrastructure investments and the protection of rural water capacity.

The paperwork is filed and candidates are registered as voters prepare to head to the polls this fall. Candidate nominations for the 2026 municipal election closed at 2 p.m. on August 21, 2026.

This year’s nomination period opened on May 1. The Clerks from each local municipality have reviewed and certified all nominations.

On October 26, voters will elect Councillors for regional, city and township councils, as well as Mayors for area municipalities and School Board Trustees.

The University of Guelph's HEAR Initiative is conducting one of the largest ever surveys of rural households in the province, asking about health, housing, jobs, and how communities are adapting to environmental changes.

The goal is to build a detailed, publicly available dataset that gives rural communities a real seat at the table when it comes to policy and funding decisions.

Here is the honest truth: when researchers and governments don't have good data about rural communities, rural communities get overlooked. This survey is a chance to fix that. And it only works if people like you take part.
