🐾 A Friendly Reminder from The Municipal Dog Pound 🐾

Keeping your pet on a leash near waterways and choosing safe play areas could be the difference between a fun spring outing and a tragedy.

Spring thaw and ice conditions can be unpredictable. Please help keep your furry friends safe with these important tips:

❄️ Use a leash
Keep your dog on a leash when walking near water and supervise them at all times. Falling through ice can lead to hypothermia, and pets may struggle to climb back out.

🌊 Play away from ice
Avoid areas where your dog could explore dangerous ice. Choose safe, controlled locations for outdoor play.

🧊 Check ice safety
Before stepping onto ice, verify its thickness and stability. Slushy, refrozen, or thawed ice is hazardous—especially near moving water. Never go onto ice at night when visibility is low.

⚠️ Know local risks
Be aware of fast-moving water, slippery banks, and other hazards in your area.

📱 Be emergency-ready
Carry a cell phone and avoid putting yourself at risk if a pet falls through ice. Emergency services are equipped to help with rescues.

🐶 *Stay safe and enjoy the spring season with your canine companions!
