Have you ever wondered why Ontario's turtles need our help, why they cross the roads, or what simple actions really make a difference?
Join Think Turtle Conservation Initiative at the North Hastings Public Library on Wednesday, August 19, for an engaging Turtle Talk that is open to all ages.
How We Can Help Ontario's Turtles

Whether you're four or ninety-four, something is fascinating to discover about this remarkable animal species. We'll explore the important role turtles play in keeping our waterbodies healthy, the many challenges they face locally and across Ontario, and, most importantly, the practical things each of us can do to help ensure they remain part of our landscape for generations to come.
As turtle hatchlings are expected to begin emerging from their nests around mid-August, this is the perfect time to learn how you can make a difference. A focus of this Turtle Talk will be the incredible journey hatchlings make from their nests to the water and the simple actions each of us can take to give more of these young turtles the best possible chance of safely reaching the wetlands, ponds, rivers, and lakes they will call home.
Following the Turtle Talk, the library has organized a fun activity for children, and they have turtle colouring pages available as well.
Please note: This Turtle Talk does not include live turtles. Instead, our goal is to foster a greater appreciation for Ontario's native turtles you may encounter in the wild and to inspire everyone to become part of their conservation.
We hope you'll join us for an afternoon of learning, conversation, and conservation. Every person who understands turtles a little better becomes another voice helping protect one of Ontario's most remarkable and at-risk groups of wildlife.
