The Town of Banff is located inside Banff National Park, Canada’s first and the world's third national park, established in 1885. The park itself is 6,641 square kilometres (2,564 square miles); 96 percent of the park is wilderness. The Banff townsite covers 3.93 sq

uare kilometres (2.5 square miles) and has an elevation of 1,383 metres (4,537 feet) making it the highest town in Canada. Banff's townsite boundaries are fixed by federal law. The municipality may not expand its land base. Banff National Park is one of four adjacent national parks designated as the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site. Banff National National Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. Terms of Engagement and Comment Policy
The Town of Banff Communication team monitors social media comments relating to our municipal organization and Town issues for the purposes of responding to questions and informing residents and visitors, and to help our organization provide services, programs and activities in the Banff town site. We strive to respond to relevant questions and comments in a timely matter, but because we cannot engage in all conversations, we reserve the right to use our judgment in choosing which messages or comments we reply to. We encourage comments to the Town’s public social media channels to be constructive, helpful or insightful. We ask that comments and questions be respectful to our staff and others, and foster civil discourse. The Town of Banff will not respond to comments/posts/messages of the following nature, and we may delete comments on Facebook, Instagram and other social media accounts under the Town’s management, with any of the following attributes:

• Comments not topically related to the Town’s services or programs
• Comments not relevant to the Town’s post on which the comment was made
• Comments that are offensive to an individual or organization, profane, hateful or defamatory, insulting, rude, abusive, aggressive or violent
• Content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of background, national or ethnic origin, religion, creed, age, gender, gender identity, marital status, appearance, socio-economic status, physical or mental ability, or sexual orientation
• Sexual content or links to sexual content
• Messages for advertising/marketing purposes
• Messages that contain spam
• Messages that conduct or encourage illegal activity
• Messages that invade personal privacy
• Information that could compromise public safety or security, or Town operations

• Messages that we feel will not contribute to constructive flow of conversation, dialogue or debate. Violation of these terms of engagement may result in deleted comments, limited or blocked access. The Town of Banff is not responsible for any use of material posted by users. We reserve the right to modify this policy at any time.

The High Streamflow Advisory for the Bow River has ended, including upstream of the Town of Banff, through the townsite and downstream to Ghost Reservoir.

Water levels have dropped, and low-lying trails that were previously closed have reopened. There will be no more updates on this advisory.

Update: The material has tested negative for contaminants. The Town of Banff Waste Transfer Site and the Re-Use It Centre will reopen tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. as usual.

Original Post: The Town of Banff Waste Transfer Site and the Re-Use It Centre is closed due to a spill in the waste station.

The potentially toxic material is being addressed by the Fire Department.

The site will remain closed tomorrow (Saturday).

Free compost, Banff!

Banff residents, swing by our Compost Giveaway on Saturday, June 6 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot next to Banff Greenhouse Society at the Recreation Grounds.

Bring a container and collect up to 5 gallons (19 litres) of compost for use in your yard or garden.

Way to go, Banff! Last year, more than 2,000 tonnes of food scraps and food-soiled paper were processed into high-quality compost.
