Louis A. Blanc Photographic Gallery

Louis A. Blanc Photographic Gallery The Louis Blanc Photographic Gallery is an old time photo studio where you can dress in period costume. L. A.

Louis Blanc was a photographer who came to the Cariboo goldfields during the height of the gold rush. His first trip was in 1868 and he returned for several more seasons, eventually building his own studio. Unfortunately shortly after his new studio was completed the great fire of Barkerville burned it to the ground http://www.barkerville.com/vol10/bville_burns.html. Blanc was never able to rebuil

d and he sold his artwork and equipment and left Barkerville forever. Unfortunately only a handful of his photos have ever been found and there are no records of Blanc's whereabouts after Barkerville. His photographic record would have been a priceless heritage treasure today as he specialized in several photographic styles that were emerging in the very beginning of the art form. Operation of the modern day Louis Blanc Studio was started in 1983 by Ron and Pat Young to interpret the photography of the gold rush period and provide an opportunity for visitors to dress in 1870's period costume and have their photo taken. After 31 wildly successful years we continue the tradition and are proud that many thousand homes in the Cariboo, across the country and around the world have photos we have taken in our studio. Blanc also operates Pioneer Clothing in Barkerville and can provide costume rentals for all ages.

We had an amazing and festive weekend in Barkerville and Bubba approved of all the activities! He is now a part of some very festive family portraits he chose to be in, lounging on the chaise, unbothered by the many guests who sat for a portrait with St. Nick. He enjoyed some down time snoozing on some of the furniture and greeting everyone who came through the door. We would love to see your pictures of Bubba, if you were lucky enough to spot this sweet guy this past weekend! He does a wonderful job of keeping the critters at bay, and is taken very good care of by Barkerville Historic Town & Park in return. Thank you to all of our guests for a successful and memorable Olde Fashioned Christmas weekend in Barkerville!

Good day to all our followers! We would like to sincerely apologize for the lack of a phone line as we did finally succeed in having a line secured after two years of trying, and now the line is down, and we have no answers as to why. If you would like to book an appointment in advance of your visit, please message us here until Telus is able to accommodate a technician visit at which time we will update with our new line once again. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

A selection of historic photos of Wells, Barkerville and Quesnel in the mid 1930's. These provide exceptional insight into the life and times of the folks who worked the mines and lived in the so called dirty thirties. We don't have any info about Mr. Boomhower but assume he was employed by one of the mines and enjoyed the hobby of photography. These photos were discovered in a Williams Lake auction lot of miscl. junk several years ago. Because they are an unusual large format digitizing them was a challenge.
