After several years of lobbying for this I am thankful that Barrie is getting two new paramedic stations one being on Veterans Dr at Salem and the other at 249 Cundles Dr in the north end. These two strategic locations will allow paramedic to have better response times in the north and south end of our city.
BARRIE IN LINE FOR TWO NEW PARAMEDIC POSTS UNDER COUNTY OF SIMCOE PLAN
Barrie is set to receive two new paramedic posts as part of a broader plan to expand emergency response capacity across the city and the county.
A staff report presented during today’s County of Simcoe committee of the whole meeting outlined recent progress on land acquisition, site preparation and design work for new paramedic facilities planned for Cundles Road in the city's north end and in the Bloxham Tract of the county forest in southwest Barrie, near Salem Road and Veterans Drive.
The projects form part of the county’s hub-and-spoke deployment model and long‑term paramedic services facility plan, said Jane Sinclair, the county’s commissioner of health and emergency services.
“The one purchase for central west on Cundles, that existing facility has now been demolished to ensure safety of the site and we will be bringing forward plans to develop that post in 2027,” said Sinclair. “The second post is the Bloxham Tract ... and again, we are in design plans right now and will be bringing forward more details in 2027 for council’s consideration.”
The report says the plan is designed to improve emergency response coverage, support rapid population growth and replace temporary deployment strategies with permanent infrastructure.
It notes that since the previous update, work has advanced on land acquisition, planning, site preparation and project development to position both Barrie projects for future council consideration through the annual capital budget process, while outlining each post’s current status and the anticipated capital funding required to move them forward.
The report notes the county continues to see sustained population growth, particularly in Barrie and nearby municipalities, driving higher emergency call volumes and the need for a more resilient paramedic deployment model.
It also states that the paramedic services facility plan outlines a long‑term station strategy based on projected growth, operational demand, response coverage, facility condition and service delivery requirements.
