The Every Child Matters flag flies at RVH throughout September.

The flag honours residential school survivors, remembers the children who never returned home and recognizes the lasting impacts of residential schools on Indigenous families and communities.

Its presence also marks the beginning of a month of learning, reflection and Reconcili-ACTION at RVH. Throughout September, Team RVH will take part in activities that encourage a deeper understanding of Truth and Reconciliation and the meaningful actions each of us can take to advance it.

At RVH, this work is about more than awareness. It is about helping create a healthcare environment where Indigenous patients and families feel respected, understood and receive culturally safe care.

Every child matters. Every action matters.

25 Years On. Still Needed.

Knowing where to turn for support, or what to do in an emergency, can make a difference.

This International Overdose Awareness Day, we’re sharing two resources available in our community:

💙 Need support with substance use? Our four RAAM clinics offer quick, low-barrier access to care. You don’t need a referral
to get started.

💙 Want to be prepared? Naloxone kits are available for free and can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose. Knowing how to use one could help save a life.

Whether you’re looking for support for yourself, someone you care about, or simply want to be prepared, these resources are here when you need them.

RVH is excited to welcome 10 new resident physicians to our Family Medicine Teaching Unit (FMTU) this fall as we continue to help train the next generation of primary care providers 🩺🎓

Dr. Cezara Ene and several other new family doctors are expected to begin practicing in Barrie and area after completing their placement RVH’s FMTU this summer.

The Barrie FMTU is a collaboration between RVH and the University of Toronto’s Department of Family and Community Medicine. It gives resident physicians two years of hands-on experience under the guidance of RVH physicians, setting them up for success in their future practices.

As Simcoe Muskoka continues to grow, RVH is helping to increase our area’s capacity for primary care, creating more chances for residents to get the care they need, close to home.

Anyone looking for a family doctor or nurse practitioner are encouraged to register with Health Care Connect, a free provincial program for finding available primary care practitioners: https://bit.ly/4x6PmuP

Research helps improve the care patients receive every day.

It leads to new ideas, better treatments and new ways of delivering care that improve health today while shaping the future of healthcare for years to come.

That's why Brightshores Health System, Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, Georgian Bay General Hospital, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre have come together to launch the Central Ontario Research Ethics Board (CO-REB).

Building on RVH's established Research Ethics Board, CO-REB helps community hospitals work together on health research that improves care, while making sure studies involving people are safe, ethical and carefully reviewed.

Together, we're strengthening health research across Central Ontario so hospitals can advance new ideas, evaluate innovative approaches to care and turn new discoveries into better care for patients. The result? More opportunities for patients and communities to benefit from research and innovation closer to home.

This , we’re proud to introduce Mamava lactation pods at RVH.

Made possible through the generous support of the RVH Auxiliary and inspired by feedback from Team RVH, these private, comfortable spaces provide dedicated areas for breastfeeding and expressing milk.

Visiting or receiving care at RVH? The public Mamava pod is conveniently located in the Atrium Entrance and can be accessed through the Mamava app.

It’s another step forward in our commitment to creating a more inclusive, accessible and supportive environment for patients, visitors, care partners and Team RVH.

RVH researchers are teaming up with post-secondary students like Laura to drive innovation in healthcare.

As a nursing student at Georgian College, Laura Coleman found an interest in evidence-based patient care. This led her to RVH's Student Program in Applied Research and Knowledge Building (SPARK), where she was paired with Dr. Corey Heerschap, Wound and Ostomy Clinical Nurse Specialist at RVH. Their work is focused on improving wound and ostomy care education using AI-generated images.
