The Downtown Barrie BIA is proud to contribute $5,000 to RVH Foundation in support of the Keep Life Wild Campaign, turning the return of a favourite downtown summer tradition into meaningful support for health care in the Barrie community.

The contribution comes from the return of Downtown Barrie Ribfest, which brought the long-running community event back to Barrie’s downtown waterfront at Heritage Park this summer. From the outset, giving back was part of the event, with a portion of festival proceeds committed to supporting RVH.

For the Downtown Barrie BIA Board, the $5,000 contribution reflects the important connection between a strong downtown and the health and well-being of the wider community.

There is a new ‘55 special in town and it’s Double Nickel Wednesdays in Downtown Barrie.

On the last Wednesday of the month shoppers aged 55 and over can visit Ashley Ziltener, R.P.N | Barrie Botox & Skin Care Clinic, 🎯OnTheMark Vintage🎯, RUDY and Barrie’s Downtown Boutique and receive a 15% discount on their purchases.

This east end initiative is being led by Ashley Ziltener, the proprietor of North Valley Medical Aesthetics.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day are both observed annually on September 30th, and they are dedicated to honouring Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities, and to recognize the lasting impacts of Canada’s Residential School system. These commemorations provide an opportunity to deepen Canada’s understanding of the intergenerational effects of residential schools and to reflect on their enduring legacy as part of the ongoing journey toward truth, healing, and reconciliation.

Community members are invited to gather, learn and reflect today in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Events are being offered through a collaboration between Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin, Barrie Native Friendship Centre, City of Barrie and Barrie Public Library.

Dunlop Mews is now officially known as Sally’s Alley.

Mayor Alex Nuttall has proclaimed Dunlop Mews as Sally’s Alley, honouring the legacy of downtown business owner Rob McCormack and his beloved companion Sally.

Their story reflects the irreplaceable character independent businesses bring to Barrie’s core.

The dedication:
A lane named for a man and his dog - Rob McCormack operated Simcoe Print Solutions at 124 Dunlop St East from 2015 until his passing in 2025.

His dog Sally became a beloved neighbourhood fixture, greeted daily by pedestrians who stopped to pet and treat her.

The city recognises McCormack’s work ethic and downtown commitment as hallmarks of independent business resilience.

Mayor Alex Nuttall signed the proclamation dedicating the location to both Rob McCormack and Sally forever.

10 YEARS SERVING DUNLOP ST EAST

The Business Owner:
McCormack ran Simcoe Print Solutions on Dunlop St East for a decade in a highly competitive market.

His personality and work ethic helped him survive and flourish where many independent operators struggle.

The Companion:
Sally was a daily neighbourhood fixture, drawing pedestrians to pause, pet her, and offer treats.

She passed away shortly after McCormack, deepening the community’s sense of shared loss on the street.

City Recognition:
Barrie formally acknowledges McCormack as a valued downtown community member whose qualities defined local commerce.

The proclamation also honours all independent downtown owners whose dedication shapes the city’s unique character.

The Proclamation:
Mayor Alex Nuttall officially renamed the laneway Sally’s Alley as a permanent memorial to Rob and Sally.

The dedication ensures Dunlop Mews carries their memory for every resident and visitor who passes through.

Last Saturday’s Troubadour Festival finale began at 10am with Troubadour Treehouse family programming in Meridian Place and on the Troubadour Street Stage.

The live music continued at the street stage into the afternoon leading up to the evening’s entertainment at the main stage in Meridian Place.

Thank you to everyone visited, shopped, sipped and savoured everything Downtown Barrie has to offer.
