“A small percentage.”
Tell that to the CYW being forced out of a specialized program she helped build from the ground up, because the employer won’t follow their own seniority practices.
Tell that to the member worried about losing their immigration status.
Tell that to the single mothers in our feminized workforce left wondering how they'll pay their bills, put food on the table, or keep a roof over their heads.
Tell that to the secretary being told their hours are likely being cut in half.
Tell that to the education workers being ripped away from the school communities they’ve dedicated years, and in some cases decades, serving without rationale or explanation.
Remember how this employer chose to tell you that your livelihood, your family, and your future are at risk the the next time you’re expected to work through your unpaid lunch, skip your break, work beyond your paid workday, or stay silent after being repeatedly assaulted at work.
REMEMBER ALL OF THIS.
For our employer:
You should know that this is not a “small percentage” for your employees whose lives have been turned upside down.
It’s not small to the student who runs into school every morning looking for the trusted adult who makes them feel safe, understood, and capable, only to be left wondering why they’re leaving.
It’s not “small” to the school communities being forced to absorb the consequences of your decisions.
YRDSB talks a lot about building a “Culture of Care”. If this is what care looks like to you, you get an F.
