If you’ve visited our new Barrington Recreation Centre lately, you may have spotted a colourful new “face” welcoming you inside!

Unveiled during the Barrington Recreation Centre’s Grand Opening on August 5, this beautiful lobster was designed and painted by local artist Kim Smerek and celebrates recreation and active living in Barrington.

Take a closer look and you’ll find all kinds of details woven into the design — running, cycling, kayaking, hockey, curling, tennis, baseball, gardening and more. There’s even a nod to our very own Nova Scotia Marathon – Sea Me Run!

It seems only fitting that our newest recreation facility has its very own lobster! 🦞

Next time you’re exploring the Municipality of Barrington, stop in and have a look, and don’t forget to check out the other colourful lobster sculptures you’ll find throughout the Lobster Capital of Canada.

Have you lost count of how many we have now? Put your guess in the comments!

There’s a new lobster on the trail!

The Lobster Capital of Canada has welcomed another colourful addition, this time along the Woods Harbour Multi-Purpose Trail!

Painted by local artist Danielle Mahood, this striking lobster celebrates our connection to the sea and our working waterfront, and adds another unique piece of public art for residents and visitors to discover.

The sculpture was completed in partnership with the Western Regional Enterprise Network (WREN) as part of its Get Side-Tracked initiative, which helped transform our region’s trail network into the Dark Sky T’Railway, bringing new energy, visitor amenities and public art to trails throughout the region.

It’s a great example of what can happen when trails, art and community come together.

A big thank you to Danielle Mahood, WREN and everyone involved in Get Side-Tracked for helping make our trails even more interesting places to explore.

Next time you’re in Woods Harbour, get side-tracked and say hello to our newest lobster! 🦞

EXPLORE A CONTROVERSIAL CHAPTER OF LOCAL HISTORY

The Barrington Museum Complex is hosting a fascinating presentation this Friday, August 21 at 6:30 p.m. — Controversial Commune: Northeast Kingdom Community Church.

The presentation will explore the history of the Northeast Kingdom Community Church and its presence in Shelburne County during the 1980s and 1990s, including the group’s arrival in the area, the community’s response, and the lasting impact of this little-known chapter of our local history.

Whether you remember the controversy firsthand or are hearing about it for the first time, this is a unique opportunity to learn more about an intriguing part of Shelburne County’s past.

HE DID IT! 1,000+ KM ACROSS NOVA SCOTIA!

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Darcy Eygun to the finish line at Baccaro Point Lighthouse after an incredible journey of more than 1,000 kilometres across Nova Scotia in support of Feed Nova Scotia! ❤️

What an accomplishment, and what a beautiful place to finish it! From the Northern tip of Nova Scotia to the Southern Tip!

Darcy’s journey has been about so much more than kilometres travelled. Along the way, he has raised funds and awareness for Feed Nova Scotia and brought communities together across the province in support of an important cause.

We were thrilled to be at Baccaro Point today to cheer him across the finish line and give him a warm Barrington welcome, with a little help from our favourite lobster! 🦞

Congratulations, Darcy! Your determination, generosity and commitment are truly something to celebrate. We hope Baccaro Point will always hold a special place in your memories of this incredible journey.

From all of us here in the Municipality of Barrington , congratulations!
