Be sure to mark your calendars and join us for a special afternoon at the Ross-Thomson House & Store Museum this coming Sat, 20 Jun 2026, from 1 – 3 pm.

And to make it even more memorable, the Shelburne Re-enactment Association and the 3rd New Jersey Volunteers have very kindly offered access to their historic costume collection. For a modest donation and as a fundraiser for the Association, anyone wanting to attend the garden party in 18th century style is welcome to rent historic garb from the Regiment’s Orderly Room for the afternoon.

Quartermaster Brian Ogilvie invites you to drop by the Orderly Room at 10A Ann Street on Tue 16 Jun 2026 from 10 am – 12 pm. He will be pleased to help you put together the perfect 18th century ensemble for the garden party!

Elder Abuse is everyone’s business!
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is commemorated each year on June 15th to highlight one of the worst manifestations of ageism and inequality in our society, elder abuse.

Elder abuse is any act that causes harm to an older person and is carried out by someone they know and trust, such as a family member or friend.

Elder abuse can be financial, emotional, physical, and sexual. It also includes people who are neglected and those who neglect themselves (self-neglect). Social isolation, financial or emotional stress, and dementia can make a senior vulnerable to abuse.

The consequences of elder abuse are grave: older adults who are abused are twice as likely to be hospitalized, four times as likely to go into nursing homes, and three times as likely to die. While studies show that 60% of abusers are family members, abuse can happen in any setting: in the older adult’s own home or a senior living community.

If you suspect a senior is being abused, neglected, or is in need of protection, call Adult Protection Services toll-free at 1-800-225-7225. If you believe the senior's immediate safety or life is in danger, dial 911 or your local police department immediately!

⚓ Our new Home Port at the Barrington Lions Club is starting to take shape!

We're hoping to have our new home completed in July, giving Sou'West Nova Transit a place to anchor our operations as we continue connecting communities across Shelburne County.

To celebrate, we're planning a Community BBQ once we're settled in. No date to share just yet, but stay tuned—we're looking forward to welcoming everyone for a bite to eat and a chance to celebrate this exciting milestone with us.

💙 More details coming soon!

💙 Shelburne County Senior Safety was proud to take part in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in Yarmouth this past weekend.

It was an honour to walk alongside community members, families, caregivers, and supporters to raise awareness and show support for those living with dementia and their care partners. Events like this are an important reminder that no one should face Alzheimer’s or dementia alone.

A heartfelt thank you to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia for the incredible work they do every day to support individuals and families across our province. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Ashley Rhyno for coordinating such a meaningful and well-organized event. 💙

Together, we walked for memories, for loved ones, and for hope.

🐾 A friendly reminder for seniors and pet owners from the By-Law Officer! 🐶

Our pets are family, and being a responsible pet owner includes making sure your dog is registered with the Municipality of Shelburne. Dog registration helps ensure owners can be quickly contacted if a pet is found wandering or gets lost.

For many seniors, pets provide companionship, comfort, and routine — so keeping them safe is especially important. ❤️

You can review the Municipality’s Dog Bylaw here: www.municipalityofshelburne.ca/by-laws/

Let’s work together to keep both our seniors and their furry companions safe in our communities! 🐕

A great reminder to share from the By-Law Officer...

A key part of being a responsible pet owner in Shelburne is registering your dog with the municipality. Registering your dog will ensure that we are able to locate owners if your dog is found running. The Municipality’s Dog Bylaw that can be found at: www.municipalityofshelburne.ca/by-laws/

As dog owners, it's important to remember the responsibilities that come with having a furry friend! 🐾
