Get ready for a spooktacular evening of Halloween fun in Zurich! 🧡

🗺️ Pick up your scavenger hunt sheets at the Town & Country Bowling Lanes and get ready to find all the characters around town!

🚗 Parking is available at the arena and Lions Park.

🗳️ Ballot drop-off: Bring your completed sheets to Hay Town Hall to enter in our prize raffle!

🎃 More Halloween fun: Don’t forget to check out the Halloween display at the corner of Mill Street and John Street, and drive out to West Huron Care Centre to find their character and spend some time visiting with the residents!

⚠️ A reminder to drivers: There will be lots of little ghosts, goblins, and excited kiddos out and about tonight! Please slow down, stay alert, and drive carefully to help everyone enjoy a safe and happy Hallow’s Night.

Although it is uncommon, every once in a while we hear reports of bear sightings in our area. Recently, we have received a report of a bear in the area of Pavilion Road and Bannockburn Line.

If you see a bear, do you know what to do? The Ontario Bear Wise website can help prepare you.

Some ways to reduce attracting bears include putting garbage in containers with tight lids, washing containers frequently to reduce odours and putting out garbage the morning of garbage collection and not the night before.

Report non-emergency encounters by calling the bear wise reporting line 1-866-514-2327.

Call 911 or your local police if a bear poses an immediate threat to personal safety and exhibits threatening or aggressive behaviour.

Did you know the Municipality of Bluewater operates as a ward system? Voters elect a councillor to represent their ward. Wards are divided based on roll numbers, not mailing addresses. When you log into the voting system, your ballot will tell you which positions you are voting for, such as mayor and ward councillor.

Our wards are:

*️⃣Ward 10 - Hay East, roll numbers starting with 090 and located east of Hwy 21

At its Regular Meeting of Council on October 19, 2026, Council of the Municipality of Bluewater:

- Requested that the Ministry of Transportation delay construction of the intersection improvements on Highway 21 at Mill Road and Cameron Street until after the speed limit review has been conducted.
-Adopted the Water Works Financial Plan - 2027 to 2032, as prepared by BM Ross and Associates Limited, for the purpose of supporting the renewal of the Municipality's Municipal Drinking Water Licence.
-Approved the collection of actual costs for the construction of the Steckle Municipal Drain.

Bluewater will once again offer fall leaf collection for urban areas (Bayfield, Brucefield, Dashwood, Hensall, Kippen, Varna, and Zurich)
from October 13 to November 18, 2026.

Lakeshore subdivisions (West of Highway 21)—Collection will be November 6, 2026 (Weather conditions may require changes to the schedule.)

Collection Requirements
🍂Leaves must be placed in compostable paper bags only. Plastic bags will not be accepted.
🍂 Bags must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on collection day.
🍂 Do not place brush, branches, sticks, sod, garbage, or animal waste in bags.
🍂 Please do not rake leaves onto streets or into ditches, as this can create drainage issues and safety hazards.

Lakeshore Collection
🍂 Green waste piled in a central location within an association will not be collected.
🍂Leaves placed out after November 6, 2026 will not be picked up.

Alternative Disposal Options
🍂Green Waste Depot - 72879 Blind Line, Zurich Leaves & brush accepted, free of charge anytime. Branches must be less than 4 inches in diameter.
🍂Stanley Landfill - 38594 Mill Road, Varna Leaves & brush accepted free of charge during regular operating hours.
Consider mulching, composting, or using leaves as garden cover to reduce waste and support a healthier environment.

Is your child ready for a little more independence? Our upcoming Stay Safe! Course is designed to help youth ages 9–13 build confidence and learn essential safety skills for when they're home or out in the community without direct adult supervision. 🏡

Participants will learn:
✅ How to stay safe when home alone
☎️ What to do in an emergency and how to call for help
🛡️ How to recognize unsafe situations and make responsible decisions
🌐 Tips for staying safe online and in the community
💡 Problem-solving skills to help them feel more confident and independent

Looking for a great way for your child to build confidence and learn important safety skills? Our Red Cross Stay Safe course is coming up this Saturday!

Designed for youth ages 9–13, participants will learn basic first aid and how to stay safe at home and in their community when not directly supervised by a parent or trusted adult.
