Good evening Lincoln. I am just about to head out for a little door knocking in ward 2, but wanted to share a quick note. Some of you may have read about the article about the Billings Township mayor pulling his name out of the election because of the treatment he received over time. It was quite a statement. One of things I mentioned early on in my campaign was the need to encourage and mentor the next generation of voices. We all have limited time in our community and in office, and we need to do everything we can to find people willing to take over the responsibility and workload in the years to come.

We have a number of very strong and experienced councillors. As Mayor, I want to continue to raise the engagement and opportunities for any one willing to take on our future challenges. I have made it a point to chat and meet with all 5 of the new candidates running for council. I will also be co-canvassing with them in the weeks to come. My hope is that we can each share the experience of how to make Lincoln a better place to live, but also to open some doors and give these new candidates a platform to share themselves with each of you. I hope this time together will strengthen their connections to the community, and give them encouragement to keep going.

After each event, I will give a little recap and brief profile of each so you can learn a bit more about them too. They are all fantastic individuals, and I look forward to getting to know them a little better. Have a great night and long weekend. 😊

Good evening Lincoln. It was an absolute pleasure to attend the Save The Bench - Beamsville community fundraiser tonight. This event was put together to support the Beamsville Bench Wineries Association (BBWA) in their defense in the appeal of the proposed condos at 5205 King. Thank you to everyone who attended, and to all the organizers. Special thanks to Norm Beal (Peninsula Ridge)and Harald Thiel (Hidden Bench) for their passion and drive to push forward in the defense of our community. I can’t tell you the sense of pride I felt leaving at the end of the night. To see the community come together like that on such short notice, was amazing. If you are interested please follow them on Facebook and visit their website below.

Good morning Lincoln! I hope everyone is having a great week. Just a heads up that 2 weeks from today is when we are able to put up signs. I want to thank everyone who has reached out asking for one. I appreciate it very much. I made the decision in 2018 to never seek or take donations from residents or businesses (aside from my dad who likes to make a donation, but he is not a resident 😊). I fund all my signs, printed material, and campaign related expenses. I don’t like the optics of politicians seeking/taking contributions. So for me, someone asking for a sign is all the support I can hope for.

If you have requested one through Facebook, messenger, or my website I have it noted. If you would like to show your support, I will be happy to come same hello and install the sign personally. I will also remove it after the election. Just send me a note, or request it through my website below.

Have a great weekend and thanks again. ❤️😊

Mayoral Platform #5

Development

Good afternoon Lincoln. I hope everyone is having a great week. Before I get into this week’s platform I wanted to let everyone know that canvassing is ramping up and I will be spending the next couple days visiting residents in Vineland. If I miss you during my visit, and you would like to meet, please reach out through Facebook or through my website (below).

One of my driving forces behind running for office in 2018 was the manner in which a development was approved next to Sobeys. There seemed to be a disconnect between what residents wanted and what the town eventually approved.
In the time since I have realized there is an imperfect balance between building something that is suitable for the community and understanding the limitations on the town with provincial growth policy.

Development is a very sensitive topic for many. Before the flooding, people have raised concerns about change, construction, and tax increases related to development. Since the floods people question whether or not the recent development has contributed in some way to the burden on our infrastructure. I have discussed this at length with people all over town. It is a concern in the community, and it needs to be acknowledged.

On this point, I think this needs to be addressed in the town review to ensure that our infrastructure has the capacity to withstand larger weather events. I think moving forward, this needs to be a lens of scrutiny that each new development proposal must undergo. We need to know exactly what the downstream impacts each development will have on our infrastructure (mainly water management and energy demand) to ensure we are not compromising the health and wellbeing of our existing community.

For anyone that has followed me for any period of time, you will know that I push back the most on development within council. In my first term I brought forward a motion, with Cllr Mikolic, to review and eventually remove the developer incentives that Lincoln had in place that provided DC reductions and Tax grants for some new builds. I do know that the province pushes development policy down on municipalities, and over time our leverage and influence on final development outcomes has been eroded.

As Mayor I will continue to challenge proposed developments to ensure they both meet our community needs, but also do not negatively impact our infrastructure system. I will continue to push to ensure that the cost of new development is not placed on the existing community. I will not be afraid to stand up and say no to a development that does not conform to our ideals. Even if that means it would be appealed at the OLT, doing the right thing for Lincoln will always come first.

Development isn’t a bad thing. It builds us new roads, it helps us build new facilities and parks. It brings new faces, new ideas, and new voices to Lincoln. With more people we get opportunities for new businesses, new restaurants and new services. But it all comes back to balance. Balance between the past and the future. As Mayor I will strive to find that balance.
