🎉 Beaverlodge Daycare is turning 50! 🎉

Has your child, family member, or even YOU been part of the Beaverlodge Daycare over the years? Then we need YOU to help us celebrate this incredible milestone! ❤️

For 50 years, the Beaverlodge Daycare has been a place where children have learned, grown, played, and built lifelong memories. It has also been shaped by amazing educators, board members, families, volunteers, and community supporters who have helped make it such a special place.

To celebrate, we are creating a COMMUNITY MURAL — and we want as many people as possible to be part of it!

🖌️ How can you help?Pick up a tile kit and create your own small piece of this beautiful community artwork!

📍 Tile kits can be picked up by:
• Messaging us here on Facebook
• Emailing us at [email protected]
• Visiting us at the Co-op Community BBQ, where we’ll also have a painting table set up so you can paint your tile right there!

Whether you attended the daycare years ago, currently have children with us, worked here, volunteered, donated, or simply supported us along the way — this mural is for YOU too.

✨ Our goal is to unveil the mural on September 12th as part of our 50th anniversary celebration!

📅 Please return all completed tiles to the daycare by August 16th.

We are so grateful for every person who has helped build this amazing space for children in our community over the past 50 years, and we can’t wait to create this special piece of art together.

I am so excited to introduce Nurtured Oak Therapy 🌿
With the completion of my MSW placement, I’m excited to share that I will be moving into my own private practice.
This name carries a piece of what matters most to me in my work and in my life. Nurtured reflects the heart of my approach as a therapist, creating a steady, compassionate space where people feel supported, held, and able to reconnect with themselves. And Oak is inspired by something very personal to me, symbolizing strength, grounding, and growth.

So much of my work centres around the idea that when we nurture the mother, we nurture the baby too. Support, care, and attunement in the perinatal period ripple outward in powerful ways, for parents, babies, and families.

Nothing else is changing. Same location, same face, just a new name and updated booking site.

SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS...

The Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children, Youth, and Families (CUP), in partnership with the CELC. are now piloting a survey exploring the impact of the April 1, 2025 Government of Alberta policy changes on early learning and child care.
The survey committee is seeking feedback from frontline early childhood educators who worked in licensed child care centres and approved/regulated family day homes both before and after April 1, 2025. to share feedback about how policy changes are affecting their day-to-day work and the children and families they serve.

For those interested in participating in the pilot, please click on the following link to complete the Google Form and indicate their availability. They will be invited to attend a live Zoom session with members of the research team and other early childhood educators.

It is completely natural to feel that sudden jolt of fear when you see a child climbing a little too high or balancing on an uneven edge. As parents and educators, our first instinct is to protect them from every possible bump and bruise because we care so deeply for their safety. However, when we say be careful, we might accidentally be stepping in the way of their most vital development - cerebellum development.

The cerebellum is the part of the brain responsible for coordination, balance, and motor control, and it thrives on the data it receives during these moments of physical challenge.

When a child navigates a risk, their cerebellum is working hard to map their body in space and refine their movements so it makes less errors each time. If we always intervene or remove the challenge, we are actually denying that part of the brain the practice it needs to keep them safe in the long run.

Instead of letting fear take over, try to offer support through questions that prompt them to think. Asking a child where they plan to put their foot next or how their body feels in that position helps them build a lifelong skill for risk assessment.

You are not just preventing a fall today, you are giving their brain the tools to prevent falls tomorrow and into their adult future.

Real safety is about building a child who is capable and aware of their own body.

If you would like to explore more ways to use language to build resilience, you can find further guidance in my online risk management resources.
