Dress for Success Halifax Society

Dress for Success Halifax Society Dress for Success is a non-profit org dedicated to assisting women entering the workforce + ALL ways

Dress for Success Halifax clients come to us from a continually-expanding and diverse group of non-profit and government agencies including homeless shelters, immigration services, job training programs, educational institutions and domestic violence shelters. On her initial visit, a woman receives clothing and accessories appropriate for the industry in which she is interviewing. Thanks to wonder

ful community partners, we are able to offer complimentary salon services, dental cleaning, and make-up application as well. Once a woman becomes employed, she returns to Dress for Success Halifax for a second complete suiting. Finally, as an employed woman, she is invited to join the Professional Women’s Group (PWG), where she may choose additional casual clothing at each monthly meeting that can be mixed and matched to make several outfits, providing her with the foundation for a professional wardrobe. While we may be best known for providing clothing to women, it is our employment retention programs that are the cornerstone of the organization:

PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S GROUP
To meet the need for services that would help women both find and keep jobs, we established the Professional Women’s Group (PWG) program which meets monthly to share, grow and network with other women going through similar transitions. Each meeting includes a guest speaker presentation on topics such as financial literacy, health and wellness, and professional development. CAREER CENTER

• Computer and internet access
• Cover letter and resume writing assistance

🥳 DECEMBER WORKSHOP 🥳

Event Details:
Wednesday, December 3, 2025 – 7pm to 8:30 pm (Eastern Time).
Presented in partnership with Find Your Stride, Dress for Success Canada Foundation invites you to join us for this free online workshop “Laugh It Off and Bring It On: Using Humour as a Stress-Buster” with Jessica Holmes.

Comedy is a powerful filter through which we can navigate stressful situations, recover faster from setbacks, and face challenges more easily. It even boosts immunity! In this energizing presentation, Jessica Holmes helps your team take a load off with laughter, and gives you the tools to make it happen at work and in life.
Beloved comedian Jessica Holmes has brought the house down opening for giants such as Ellen DeGeneres, Russell Peters, Jerry Seinfeld, and Oprah Winfrey. She has performed at Just For Laughs and The Second City, and starred in the comedy series, The Holmes Show and Royal Canadian Air Farce.
Holmes, like millions of North Americans, has struggled both with post-partum depression and, as she puts it, “regular, run-of-the-mill, garden-variety depression”. Striving to help end the stigma around mental health issues, she openly shares her personal stories with the humour she’s known for, bringing light to what can often be a dark topic. Holmes’ funny and inspiring book, Depression The Comedy: A Tale of Perseverance, takes readers deeper into her mental health journey with validation and warmth.

Learning outcomes will include:
·        Facing challenges with a lighter mindset
·        Using humour as a practical tool to manage stress & boost resilience
·        Strengthening social connections through humour
·        Tips for incorporating laughter and lightness into the workplace
·        Empathy for ourselves and others

BONUS: Everyone who registers AND attends will be entered to win 1 of 5 TJX gift cards valued at $50!

🤩 FREE ZOOM WORKSHOP🤩

“What It Takes to Be Heard: A Journey of Voice, Courage, & Unexpected Joy” with Zahra Al-Harazi, presented
in partnership by Dress for Success Canada Foundation and Find Your Stride – Wednesday, November 5, 2025 –
7pm to 8pm (Eastern Time).

Zahra Al-Harazi is now known as a bold entrepreneur, an outspoken advocate for human potential, and a globally
recognized speaker. Her voice carries weight — in boardrooms, on international stages, and in the lives of those she
moves. But that voice wasn’t always loud, or confident, or even welcome.

Born in a country where girls were taught to stay silent, Al-Harazi learned early how to shrink herself to survive. Her
goal wasn’t to be heard — it was to go unnoticed.
When she immigrated to Canada in 1996, she arrived with no
higher education, no connections, and no blueprint of what to do next. A young mother of three, she felt
overwhelmed, invisible, and completely unsure of her place in the world.

Told with warmth, honesty, and disarming wit, this deeply relatable keynote traces one woman’s journey from quiet
observer to powerful communicator. It explores how courage is built moment by moment, how failure can become
fuel, how to unlearn fear and the desire to quit, and how learning to speak with authenticity can change everything.

This is a deeply human and profoundly uplifting talk — perfect for opening minds, recharging hearts, and reminding
audiences what’s possible when we stop shrinking and start showing up.
This talk leaves audiences more connected, more courageous, and ready to lead with intention.

BONUS: Everyone who registers AND attends will be entered to win 1 of 5 TJX gift cards valued at $50!
NOTE: This workshop will not be recorded and will be presented in English only
