Nuxalk Nation continues to oppose the process the Central Coast Regional District (CCRD) has chosen to develop and adopt its draft Official Community Plan (OCP).

Nuxalk Nation maintains that the CCRD must cease and desist all OCP planning activities until meaningful work is done to obtain the free, prior, and informed consent of Nuxalk Leadership.

Without consent, this planning process and any resulting bylaw violate Nuxalk Law, infringe on our sovereignty, and violate our Rights as Indigenous Peoples.

UPDATE Nuxalk and Ulkatcho Stuwic Gathering

The itinerary for the August 7 - 9 Language and Cultural Gathering in Stuwic is below!

Everyone is welcome to join us in Stuwic for a weekend of gathering, connection, and fun. Please bring your own chair and drum and invite your friends and family to share in the weekend.

August 7th, 2026

• 5pm - Share in a meal
• Indian Bingo/ Crafts

August 8th, 2026
• 9am – Breakfast
• Crafts/ sharing in language
• Noon – lunch
• Contests – ribbon skirts, ect…

Limiting Bear Activity in Community

Guardian Watchmen and Conservation Officers are aware of a grizzly bear family unit is currently moving through the downtown area and Snxlhh (4-Mile).

The bears have been mainly feeding on fruit and have had interactions with dogs.

We can reduce bear activity around homes by removing or securing attractants.
Please make time to do the following and assist Elders who are unable to on their own:

- Pick ripe fruit from trees and off the ground as soon as possible.
- Bella Coola Foodshed alliance may be able to assist if you in harvesting fruit from your trees and bushes. See the sign-up form in the comments!
- If you have a fruit tree you'd like picked, you can also post on Facebook inviting people to pick it for you
- If you have electric fencing around fruit trees or smokehouses, ensure it is operating properly by plugging it in and clearing any vegetation that may be grounding the fence.
- Secure household garbage and bring it to the landfill on scheduled dumping days.
- Remove fish waste immediately after processing and dispose of it at the designated fish gut disposal sites shown in the photos below.

If bears cannot find food around homes, they are much more likely to move on to natural food sources away from homes.

Ulkatcho & Nuxalk Language & Cultural Gathering - August 7 - 9, 2026

Everyone is invited to join us in Stuie, BC for a weekend gathering of Language and Culture.

The gathering will feature:
- Cultural teachings, Elders' stories, and speeches
- Crafts and interactive activities
- Singing, drumming, dancing, and performances
- Games and contests for children and adults
- Campfire storytelling
- Shared meals throughout the weekend
- Traditional Lahal on Sunday evening
- Live entertainment by Joel West on Saturday night
