πŸš’ Celebrating 31 Years of Service – Acting Captain Joanne Cleary

Belleville Fire and Emergency Services would like to recognize Acting Captain Joanne Cleary on her retirement after an incredible 31 years of dedicated service to our department and community.

As a member of Station 4, Joanne has devoted countless hours to serving the citizens of Belleville. Volunteer firefighting is a commitment that extends well beyond responding to emergencies. It means giving up evenings, weekends, family time, and other personal commitments to answer the call when the community needs you most.

For more than three decades, Joanne has been willing to make that commitment, demonstrating the dedication and community spirit that are at the heart of volunteer firefighting.

As she closes this chapter and begins a well-deserved retirement, we extend our sincere gratitude for her many years of service, her commitment to Station 4, and the time she has given to keeping our community safe.

Congratulations, Acting Captain Cleary, on 31 years of service. Thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and your lasting contribution to Belleville. We wish you all the very best in retirement! πŸ‘πŸš’

Fire & Emergency Services | It’s Fire Prevention Week and this year’s theme is β€œCharge into Fire Safety. Safe Charging is a Superpower.” πŸ”‹

Lithium-ion batteries power many everyday devices, from phones and laptops to e-bikes and mobility devices. Keep these tips in mind to use and charge them safely:

βœ… Only use batteries and chargers designed for your device
βœ… Charge devices on a hard, flat surface like a table or desk
βœ… Unplug your device when it is fully charged
βœ… Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters and power tools outside
βœ… Stop using your device if it feels very hot or starts to swell

⚑ Power Outage Safety Reminder

With an upcoming planned power outage affecting parts of our community today, take a few minutes to prepare your home and family.

πŸ”‹ Check your smoke and CO alarms. If your alarms rely on battery backup, remember that batteries will only last for a limited time during an extended outage.

πŸ”¦ Flashlights are the safest option for lighting.

πŸ“± Keep cellphones and important devices charged and consider having a battery-powered alarm clock so you don’t miss important alerts.

πŸ”Œ If using a generator, keep it outdoors and well away from windows, doors and vents. Never operate a generator inside a home, garage or enclosed space.

Stay safe, stay prepared, and make sure your family has a plan before the power goes out.

πŸš’ Training Makes the Difference πŸš’

Recently, Belleville Fire and Emergency Services firefighters from Station 1 and 2 had the opportunity to sharpen their vehicle extrication skills during a hands-on training session.

Using several scrap vehicles, our firefighters practiced a variety of rescue techniques and refined the skills needed to safely and efficiently remove patients from damaged vehicles. Regular training like this helps ensure our crews are prepared to respond when every second counts.

A sincere thank you to Quinte Towing and Recovery for generously supplying the vehicles used during this valuable training. Community partnerships like these play an important role in helping us maintain the highest level of emergency response for the residents of Belleville.
