For 2026, the United Nations decided on the theme "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change," recognizing that the experiences and voices of people living with mental health conditions are essential in shaping policies, support services, and workplace practices to best suit the needs of real people around the world.

More information is available on the United Nations website (un.org) or through the World Health Organization (who.int).

Remember, we're here for you, and you can call our office Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM to see how we can help. An important step to take in contributing to su***de prevention and awareness is learning what could be indicators that someone around you is considering taking their own life. Watch for people you think might be struggling, and don’t be afraid to speak up; offering support, showing empathy, and validating their feelings is more likely to reduce distress than increase it.

If you're having suicidal thoughts, call or text the National Su***de Crisis Helpline at 9-8-8 for immediate help, available 24/7.

September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month, and coming up on September 10th will be World Su***de Prevention Day (WSPD). The International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP) established this day in conjunction with the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2003 to empower effective su***de prevention throughout the world.

This year's theme is "Changing the Narrative on Su***de" which IASP says "aims to inspire individuals, communities, organizations, and governments to engage in open and honest discussions about su***de and suicidal behaviour. By initiating these vital conversations, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of understanding and support."

Every chat, no matter how small, builds a more supportive and understanding society. Together, we can make a difference and prioritize su***de prevention, ensuring everyone gets the help they need.

More information is available through the International Association for Su***de Prevention
