Dumping Litter in the MD Ditches/Land

The MD has encountered several cases of white metals being discarded throughout various locations in our MD.

This costs the MD residents taxpayers' dollars to clean up the items from the ditches and lands, and in some cases (if white metals), pay to have them disposed of properly.

White Metals are accepted at the Grimshaw & Weberville Transfer Stations:

Stoves, Washers, Dryers, Hot Water Tanks, Misc. - $10.00
Refrigeration Units - $30.00
Penalties for littering as per Bylaw No. 2017/1
First Offence $250.00
Second Offence $500.00
Third Offence $750.00
Subsequent Offences $5,000.00

Attention Residents of the MD of Peace No. 135

PENALTIES ON UNPAID TAXES:
According to the MD of Peace No. 135, Property Tax Bylaw No. 10/2025 (approved on November 25, 2025). The property tax payment deadline is June 30, 2026. Property owners are encouraged to pay their property taxes on or before the last business day of June to avoid late penalties.

A penalty of 8% will be applied on the first business day of July 2026, followed by a second penalty of 10% on the first business day of October 2026, followed by a third penalty of 12% on December 31, 2026, on all outstanding balances.

MINIMUM TAX:
According to the Tax Rate Bylaw No. 5/2025, a minimum tax of $25 will be imposed on each taxable property within the MD. This minimum tax is intended to cover the administrative expenses associated with managing each individual property.

HWY 685 DETOUR - Update May 20, 2026

Highway 685 is open to one lane. The lane is 3.6 meters in width, so large equipment and large loads are asked to continue to use the detour near the bridge between these intersections. La Prairie has set up a detour to divert traffic North/South on range roads 244 and 245, and East/West on Township 830.

The detour is approximately 5 miles long. Drivers should take into account the extra time it may take to travel in the area for the foreseeable future. The gravel roads being used for the detour do not have dust control applied at this time, so airborne dust from increased traffic may negatively impact driving conditions. The MD and La Prairie will monitor conditions on the detour route, and a temporary speed limit reduction will be applied to the detour route if necessary.
