🌊💙 Love Your Lake – Healthy Shorelines for Healthy Lakes

This summer, the District of Muskoka’s Love Your Lake crew will be out on the water on Long’s Lake and Oxbow Lake, assessing shoreline health to help keep our lakes vibrant and thriving.

Shorelines are the lifeline of our lakes, supporting 90% of lake life. Through this program, shoreline property owners receive a personalized report with practical tips to protect their waterfront and the wildlife that depends on it. The District delivers the program in partnership with local lake associations, and we are looking for more lakes to get involved.

💧 MNR Bulletin: Watershed Condition Statement - Water Safety

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is advising area residents that a Watershed Condition Statement - Water Safety bulletin is in effect for the Muskoka District until Friday, June 19, 2026.

Elevated water levels and flows are noted on Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau, Moon River including the Bala Reach, and Ahmic Lake.

Residents, visitors, and boaters are advised to use extreme caution on waterways, as high-water levels may have affected safety booms, signage, barriers, and other safety features. Stay back from fast-moving water and unstable banks.

Residents that have been affected by high water and flow conditions in the past should continue to take necessary action to protect or secure any vulnerable property in proximity to rivers and lakes, and closely monitor developing conditions

💬 Muskoka Official Plan Review Update

We're reviewing our Official Plan and updating it to match new provincial rules, local priorities, and what residents need today.

Following public consultation, a report that provides Committee with additional information, revisions made in response to comments received and a recommendation for how to proceed with proposed amendments related to Component 3 (Environmental Resiliency) has been posted and will be considered at the Joint Community and Planning Services and Health Services Committee meeting on Thursday, June 18.

The MCYAC is a 10-month volunteer program from September 2026 to June 2027. Members meet monthly to learn about climate science, local initiatives, and practical solutions, while developing and leading projects that benefit youth and the community.

🚮 The Future of Waste Continues: Muskoka’s 30-Year Solid Waste Master Plan Advances to Council Review

How should Muskoka manage and pay for waste over the next 30 years? The District of Muskoka is taking an important step in answering that question as Council prepares to review recommended options for the Solid Waste Master Plan (SWMP) on June 15.

The options focus on four key areas:
♻️ Diversion, Processing and Reuse
🚮 Policy, Strategy and Internal Operations
🌱 Communication and Public Education
🚛 Collection and Service Delivery
