This 200$ payment is the most ridiculous example of defunding public education. Educators and admins are telling me they are short resources and their students and schools are in crisis. These funds could have been directly re invested in Public Schools to reduce or eliminate user fees, hire Educational Assistants or Mental Health professionals, food programs, classroom supplies, technology, or to boost the wages of the lowest paid educational support staff. In PDSB that would amount yo almost 40 million dollars to strengthen the public system. Instead many parents will spend it to buy gas, food or pay a bill.
Ontario’s education minister Stephen Lecce announced a new round of direct payments to parents, encouraging them to use the $200 to help with student learning recovery.
