Our client-focused approach strengthens emotional, cultural & social well-being through prevention, support, reintegration, & advocacy. We provide trauma-informed and gender-responsive resources, supports and programs to reduce the marginalization of women and girls. Through innovation, collaboration and advocacy, the organization serves women and girls who are at risk, by providing programs that
address prevention, support, reintegration and advocacy. The Elizabeth Fry Society works to ensure that protective factors, pro-social values and life skills are increased, risks are mitigated, and that women and girls have equal access and safety. As an Agency, we have defined our "community" as being at several levels:
- Our client base
- The Peel, Halton, York & Hamilton communities
- The provincial judicial/correctional systems
- The federal judicial/correctional systems
Corresponding strategies are in place for each stakeholder group. Obviously, each of our clients has very subjective needs, which are addressed by one or more of the Agency’s many programs. These programs are designed to assist clients in developing:
- Responsibility for their own lives
- Respect for self and others
- Positive relations with family, friends and community
- Pro-social values
- Positive problem-solving and life skills
The Agency’s primary focus in all areas of endeavour is pro-active crime prevention, lower recidivism rates, and successful integration into the community as demonstrated through more socially-congruent behaviour. Implicit in the concept of “community corrections” is the shaping of local response to crime. It is anticipated is that communities, inclusive of criminal and social justice professionals, will work together to increase the use of effective and timely responses for those involved in criminal behaviours.
