These are a Malaysian rosewood substitute. I do not know the species.
Very hard and very dense.
Ideal for pens, inlays, segmented turnings or other specialty items
They are rough cut. I planed one side to show the grain. I also wet the piece to highlight the grain.

On February 2, 2014 Wiarton Willie predicted 6 more weeks of winter. Well he was correct but understated. Here is a photo taken on March 31, 2014 almost 8 weeks after Willie's prediction. As you can see there is still feet of snow on the ground.

What is happening with passwords? More than one site has said your password has expired.
You then have to create a new password. They say this is for security. Bull S**t. It means that their system is not secure. They are passing security onto the user instead of fixing possible breaches on their end.
Just got off the phone to Wellington North Power and their answer was - change your password or you will have no access to your account. With the power company I do not have any alternatives so I, made an new password.
I currently have about 50 passwords in use, all strong and unique and managed. Changing them will be a lot of work and can lead to errors and security risks.
With many of the people I deal with I do have a choice and if their system defaults to this, I will delete them.

Need gardening advice!
Green gage plums - Many of our fruit get a blue patch. It is under the skin with not obvious puncture marks. If left the fruit withers to prune like consistency. When the affected fruit touched another plum that ones becomes infected as well.
What is it? How do we combat it? Is it harmful to us or our chickens?

Thank you to a total stranger!

On Tuesday I had a photo shoot involving 100 plus soccer players. Since it was in Chatsworth I thought we would go early and Lucy could enjoy a walk at Jones Falls and I could do some shopping. A good plan.
After dropping Lucy off I went to several stores and my last call was at Food Basics. Put the groceries in the van and went to start it. Gear shift went limp. I had Lucy's very old phone which I could not even get to turn on. Pressure was intense. How was I going to get Lucy. What about the 100 plus kids and parents I am supposed to take pictures of. If I called CAA how do I get the rest of the events in line. Now this is way more pressure than an old fat guy with a heart condition needs, period. As I was standing there cursing just about everything I hear a voice - “Got a dead battery?”. I thought he was asking about the phone. It was just a guy in his big black pick up. I told him the problem and he walked over to the van and slid under it. Put the linkage back together and said don't shift it until you get home.
WOW a complete stranger to the rescue. This still did not solve my photo problems. I go to the other side of Owen Sound and pick up Lucy. Explain the situation and decide to go to Chatsworth to take the pictures, knowing that when I stopped I would be stranded again. I decide to look under the van myself. Could see the problem but did not have enough hand strength to put it back together again.
Explained the situation to the soccer organizer and he said he was not a mechanic but would look at it after we finished the pictures.
Going on to 9 pm and he did get the linkage back together. First time was a failure but the second time worked. Once the tr**ny is in gear it will stay there until you go to shift it. Got us home and my blood pressure settled down by morning.
THANK YOU TO THE TOTAL STRANGER IN THE BLACK PICK UP TRUCK YOU SAVED ME. Also thanks the the soccer coach for his help. We got the pictures done, the shopping done and got home safe and sound.
This is not the first time this has happened to me. The mechanic picked the van up on Wednesday morning and brought it back by supper time. No bill yet, last time it was over $400.00.

There are still a lot of people who are willing to offer a helping hand, I hope that I will be one of them going forward.

Someone stole the old school bell from the park entrance in Holstein. This is a large bell and would have taken a couple of strong people and a truck.
If you stole it for scrap then may the fleas of 1000 camels take up permanent residence in your crotch.
If you stole it for money and you get less than $500.00 you have been fleeced.
If you stole it for your own use may it randomly ring at odd hour to remind you of your crime.
Please return it. The bell is an important part of the history of the village.

Ice is an overhead hazzard. Icicles can weight hundreds of pounds and can flatten a vehicle or you. Plus temps in the next few days may well make the ice dams and build ups come crashing down.
If you have some hanging around think about how you are going to safely get rid of them?
