Tongue Out Tuesday: Peri

This sweet girl hasn't always had the easiest life, and she deserves a future filled with kindness, patience, and love. After coming from a situation where she wasn’t treated as well as she should have been, she found herself at the shelter, where she bravely raised her puppies. Now that her mothering days are behind her, it’s finally time for her to be the one who gets spoiled!

She is looking for a special person who will show her that the world can be a safe and wonderful place. She may need to meet you a few times before she feels comfortable enough to let her guard down, but that’s okay! She isn’t asking you to rush her; she’s asking you to give her a chance. With patience, understanding, and a little extra love, you could become the person she learns to trust and the home where she can finally relax and feel safe.

She has spent so much time taking care of others. Now, it’s her turn to be cared for, cherished, and loved the way she has always deserved.

We are looking for a special long-term medical foster home for a lovely girl named Merida while she undergoes veterinary assessment and treatment for her leg. If surgery is recommended, Merida will require approximately 8–12 weeks of foster care outside of the shelter environment to allow her to recover and heal comfortably.

When Merida first arrived at the shelter, she was extremely fearful of the world around her. Since then, she has been working through a behaviour modification plan, and she has made tremendous progress. She has come a long way and is learning that the world can be a safe and positive place.

Merida may bark at things that frighten or worry her, but with patience, treats, reassurance and a calm approach, she has shown that she can work through her fears and settle. Her progress has been incredibly encouraging, and we would love to see her continue building confidence in a quiet home environment while she heals.

For Merida’s comfort and safety, her foster home must not have any other pets or young children. She will need someone who can provide her with a calm, predictable environment, patience and plenty of positive reinforcement.

Meow-velous Monday: Finn

Meet Finn, an endearing feline who joined us in early September. As a member of a group of semi-feral kittens, Finn was initially brought in for a Trap-Neuter-Return-Manage (TNRM) program. However, upon intake, we noticed something special about him: while he was understandably fearful, Finn displayed a more passive demeanor compared to his companions and was surprisingly open to handling.

Recognizing his potential for domestication, our dedicated staff began working with Finn daily to build his confidence and prepare him for a life indoors. Through gentle interactions and constant encouragement, he has shown significant progress. We now believe Finn is ready for adoption, but finding the right home is crucial to his continued development.

Finn's forever home needs to be a sanctuary—a quiet environment where he won't feel overwhelmed. His new owner(s) should be patient and devoted to spending quality time with him each day. These interactions will help Finn understand that indoor life is not only safe but also filled with love and joy. His transformation won't happen overnight; it may take weeks or even months for him to fully blossom into a confident kitty.

Having another outgoing cat in the home could greatly benefit Finn. A feline friend would serve as a role model, helping him learn the ropes of indoor living. However, we will not consider homes with young children or dogs, as their presence might be too overwhelming for him.

The ideal adopter would be someone with experience working with shy or semi-feral cats, understanding the nuances of their behaviour and the patience required to help them adjust. Once Finn trusts you, he is an incredibly loyal companion who adores petting (so much so that he drools sometimes!) and playing with cat toys & wands.

Adopting Finn is more than bringing a pet into your home; it's about embarking on a rewarding journey of trust and companionship. Small Animal Saturday: Trick & Treat *BONDED PAIR*

Tail Wagging Thursday: Poppy

Hi, I’m Poppy!

I may be little, but apparently nobody informed my personality. It is LARGE, in charge, and taking up valuable real estate. I’ve got a whole lot of love packed into this tiny body, and once I decide you’re one of my people… well, good luck getting rid of me.

First of all, I’d like everyone to know that I am an educated woman. I can sit AND shake a paw. Yes, both. Please hold your applause until the end. I’m always happy to show off my impressive resume, especially if there happens to be a snack involved. I accept payment in treats.

As for toys… I’m still trying to understand the assignment. You throw it and then… I’m supposed to go get it? For free?? Interesting concept. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll become a professional toy destroyer. We all need goals.

I will throw myself into your arms five seconds after meeting you. After all, the best things come in small packages… and come with an adoption fee!

Harrie is a sweet 12-year-old girl looking for a calm, loving home where she can relax, feel safe, and enjoy her golden years surrounded by all the love she deserves. This gentle, affectionate girl has so much love to give and would be happiest in a peaceful environment where she can settle in at her own pace, enjoy the simple things in life, and spend her days feeling cherished.

Tongue Out Tuesday: Sarah

Hi, I’m Sarah!

You may recognize me because I actually started my shelter career here as a tiny little puppy. I packed my bags, headed off to what I thought was my forever home, and then PLOT TWIST I was surrendered back through absolutely no fault of my own. So here I am. Older? Yes. Wiser? Debatable. Still mentally a puppy? Unfortunately, absolutely.

Let’s discuss my leash skills. Actually… let’s not. Walking politely on a leash is currently more of a concept than a skill I possess. Why walk calmly when I could zigzag? Why stroll when I could suddenly investigate something 14 feet away?

Despite my occasional puppy chaos, I’m actually a very sensitive girl. I can be timid, and sudden movements sometimes make me go, “ABSOLUTELY NOT, WHAT WAS THAT?!” I need someone patient who will let me take things at my own pace and help me learn that the world isn’t quite as scary as I sometimes think it is. I’d do best in a home with older children who understand my need for patience, gentle interactions, and a little personal space while I settle in.

I’ve got a whole lot of love hiding underneath these nervous little paws, and I’m just waiting for the right person to help bring it out. So, what do you say? Bring the treats, bring your patience, and maybe wear some sensible shoes because my leash manners are currently between me and the ground.

Happy Thanksgiving! As we gather to celebrate gratitude and togetherness, we'd like to share a special plea from our hearts to yours. It's our busy season, and while those adorable kittens are undeniably cute, we're asking you to consider the incredible joy of adopting an adult cat. 🐱

Why adopt an adult cat? Here are a couple purr-fect reasons:
