🧡 MRC Honours Residential School Survivors & Truth and Reconciliation Month 🧡

This month, we reflect on the 7 Sacred Teachings — Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, and Truth — as guiding values for reconciliation and healing.

We also commit ourselves to the spirit of the 94 Calls to Action, recognizing that reconciliation is not only remembrance but also meaningful action in our community.

At the Men’s Resource Centre, we stand with Survivors, families, and communities in honouring truths, carrying forward voices, and building paths of understanding and change.

➡️ Let us learn, listen, and act together.

❗ Road Hockey Tournament Cancelled ❗
It is with a heavy heart that we at the Men’s Resource Centre have made the decision to cancel our upcoming Road Hockey Tournament.
Due to zero registered teams and no contact from community partners, we are unable to move forward with the event this year.
We know many were looking forward to the tournament, and we share in that disappointment. Thank you to everyone who expressed interest — we remain committed to creating future opportunities for sport, connection, and community.
We’ll be back with new ways to come together. Until then, thank you for your continued support. 🏒❤️

🕯️ World Su***de Prevention Day – September 10 🕯️

Behind every number is a name. Behind every statistic is a story. Su***de doesn’t just take a life—it ripples through families, communities, and generations.

Here in Manitoba, incarcerated youth face a su***de risk 3–18× higher than their peers. Nearly all live with mental health struggles, and too often their pain goes unseen.

Since 2003, September 10 has been recognized worldwide to raise awareness, break stigma, and remind us that su***de is preventable. The theme for 2024–2026 is “Changing the Narrative on Su***de”—encouraging open, compassionate conversations that save lives.

💬 A Personal Note from Darian Kennedy, Coordinator at MRC

Over 9 years ago, I attempted to take my own life. I am grateful every day that I survived, and I thank my brother for being there when I needed him most. I tattooed his words on my arm—“Because brothers don’t let each other wander in the dark alone”—as a reminder that we are never meant to walk through the darkness by ourselves.

Today, I have been touched by the painful reminder that there are some of my close friends and family members that are not with us today as a result to depression and mental illnesses.

Today, I stand as an advocate for those still struggling. I want you to know: there is help, and there is hope. Someone out there will walk with you until you find light again.

👉 If you or someone you know is struggling, please call or text 9-8-8 – Canada’s Su***de Crisis Helpline. You are not alone.
