Dissection of a Murder by Jo Murray follows young lawyer Leila Reynolds. When she is handed her first murder case, she is shocked by the victim, a high profile judge who's death sent waves through the legal community. She has so little experience handling high profile cases but the defendant is insistent that he only wants her to represent him. He refuses to talk and if that wasn't complicated enough, she learns her opponent is the most ruthless prosecutor she has ever known, her husband.

It has been a long time since I have read a legal thriller. I typically don't pick them up because when it comes to thrillers, I usually prefer domestic ones. The synopsis for this one caught my eye so I thought I would give it a try. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. It is a bit of a slow burn but in no way boring and it is such a fascinating puzzle. I couldn't stop reading because I needed to know how it was going to end. It was so intense due to the fact it was husband versus wife, and the courtroom scenes were some of my favourite parts of the book. There were a couple of breathtaking twists that I didn't see coming but looking back the clues were definitely there. Learning about the UK legal system was also interesting because it is different from what we are used to. It was complex and the characters felt layered and real. Leila herself was a complicated character but I was still rooting for her success in the case. I definitely recommend giving this one a try, whether or not you like courtroom thrillers.

Dissection of a Murder by Jo Murray is available as a physical copy. To request it, search the title through the Catalogue on our website.

This Saturday marks goodbye to Shoppers Mall Library Branch Supervisor, Michelle Boudreau. You may know Michelle from her musical talent at Wiggly Wednesday or her speed puzzling fundraisers!

From Michelle: Thank you to our community for all your support of the public library, it has been a joy to share a love of literacy and music with people of all ages. I will be continuing to share music to our community and beyond!

With this change, we are saying hello and giving a warm welcome to the new Branch Supervisor, Louise Ferguson! Louise has held a number of different roles with the WMRL over the years. She even helped to open the Shoppers Mall Library in its original (tiny) location back in 2020! When she's not at work, she is raising two little book lovers at home.

There will be some changes in programming during the switch, thank you for your patience and understanding. All changes will be posted online.
