Yesterday, our team had the pleasure of attending an incredible presentation by Andrew Gurza, an award-winning Canadian disability awareness consultant, speaker, podcaster and author. Andrew is a dynamic and charming individual that travels to conferences across Canada and the US to deliver keynote presentations about disability, sexuality, identity and inclusion.
Filled with humour, storytelling and honesty about his lived experience, Andrew's presentation provided our team with more perspective and made us feel empowered to continue showing up in meaningful ways for the people we serve. It's a reminder why programs and resources, like the Building Safe Relationships initiative we're developing, are so important.
Funded by the Ontario Action Plan to End Gener-Based Violence, Building Safe Relationships is a gender-based violence cirriculum co-designed with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities — because everyone deserves to feel seen, safe and informed.
Thank you to Andrew for a thought-provoking and inspirational presentation, and to Community Living Haldimand, Community Living Access, Haldimand-Norfolk REACH, Community Living Six Nations "Ronatahskats", Community Living Brant and Brantwood Community Services for providing this wonderful opportunity.
