🤔 Confused about the property classification on your tax bill versus your property's zoning?

We've heard there may be some confusion around property classifications and zoning, so we wanted to help clear things up.

🏡 The property classification shown on your tax bill comes from MPAC and is based on how your property is currently being used for assessment and taxation purposes.
📋 Zoning is different. The Township's Zoning By-law sets out what uses are permitted on a property, not necessarily how it is currently being used.
For example, a property may be zoned Agricultural or Rural, but MPAC may classify it as Residential if it's being used as a home. This is common for smaller lots that are not being farmed.

You may also see property information on platforms such as GeoWarehouse, which sometimes label MPAC classifications as "zoning." This can add to the confusion, but the MPAC classification is not necessarily your property's zoning designation.

As we continue our Comprehensive Zoning By-law Update, it's important to know that your MPAC property classification and your zoning designation may not match and that's completely normal.

💬 Still have questions? We're happy to help. Contact the Township Planning Department or learn more about the Zoning By-law Update at ramara.ca/ZoningUpdate.
