𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 | 𝗣𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗨𝘀𝗲

The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority, Wagar & Corput W**d Control Inc., and the Invasive Phragmites Control Centre intend to control invasive Phragmites (Phragmites australis ssp. australis) within the following Leeds Grenville municipalities: Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, Town of Gananoque, Township of Front of Yonge, Township of Athens, and Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley.

The Contractor will be using pesticides registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada) for terrestrial applications.

This work will commence on September 14, 2026 (weather permitting) and conclude on September 30, 2026.

Location: County Road 14 – Approximately 6.2 kilometres between County Road 42 to Narrows Weir within the Township of Rideau Lakes.

Expected Start Date: August 31, 2026
Expected Demobilization Date: November 2026

Details: Construction activities shall include, but are not limited to, single-lane closures; replacement of deteriorated corrugated steel pipe (CSP) cross culverts; replacement of select entranceway culverts; in-place full depth reclamation of the existing asphalt with an expanded asphalt mixture (FDREAM), paving a surface lift of new hot mix asphalt; and select ditch cleanout.

Motorists will experience traffic disruption and are strongly encouraged to avoid the area using alternate routes whenever possible.

The G. Tackaberry and Family Home officially welcomed its first residents yesterday, marking a significant milestone in long-term care services in Leeds and Grenville.

Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke, Mayor of Athens, Herb Scott, and Mr. George Tackaberry were on the red carpet to welcome residents as they entered the doors to their new home for the first time.

All 60 residents who were residing at Maple View Lodge have now successfully transitioned into the new, state-of-the-art long-term care home. Designed to meet the evolving needs of residents, the new Home offers modern accommodations, enhanced safety features, and innovative spaces that support quality care, comfort, and meaningful daily living.

The residents’ move was carefully coordinated to ensure a safe and seamless transition for residents. Staff, families, volunteers, and a professional healthcare relocation team worked together to support residents every step of the way, helping them settle comfortably into their new home.

Details: Construction activities shall include, but are not limited to, single-lane closures; replacement of deteriorated corrugated steel pipe (CSP) cross culverts; replacement of select entranceway culverts; pulverization of the existing asphalt surface; grading operations; paving of two (2) lifts of new hot mix asphalt; guiderail upgrades; and select ditch cleanout.

⚠ During this period, residents may experience occasional noise, increased truck traffic, and lane reductions with flagging operations. Traffic flow is expected to be minimally impacted. We are committed to minimizing inconvenience and ensuring the work is completed efficiently and safely.

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville wrapped up its advocacy efforts at today with a meeting with Associate Minister for Ontario Energy and Mines, Sam Oosterhoff.

The delegation discussed the importance of reliable electricity infrastructure to support business growth, investment, and economic development across the St. Lawrence Region. Counties representatives also emphasized the need to ensure ongoing regional and provincial electricity planning reflects the area's future energy needs.

With today's meeting, the Counties conclude a productive week of advocacy at Association of Municipalities of Ontario - AMO's annual conference, bringing local priorities directly to provincial decision-makers through discussions on housing, workforce development, economic growth, and infrastructure.
