As school starts back, it’s completely normal for children to feel a little nervous about new routines, new classrooms, new teachers, or being away from home. For some children, though, those worries can feel overwhelming — and parents may notice an increase in anxiety during this transition.

💛 So, how can you help?

Listen and acknowledge their feelings without dismissing their worries.
Keep routines predictable and give your child time to adjust.
Encourage them to talk about what they’re worried about.
Help them focus on what they can control, one small step at a time.
Remind them that asking for help is a strength.

Most importantly, you don’t have to navigate this alone. If your child’s anxiety is affecting their day-to-day life, school, sleep, relationships, or ability to participate in activities, support is available.

If you’re concerned about your child, reach out to CMHLG to discuss a referral and learn more about how we can help. Call us at 1-800-809-2494 or self refer online at www.cmhlg.ca
