August 20, 2026 Special Council Meeting

Procedural Update: Integrity Commissioner Report

The Township would like to clarify a procedural error that occurred during last night’s Council meeting regarding a motion to publish an Integrity Commissioner’s report on the Township’s website.

During the vote, two Members voted in favour, two voted against, and one Member abstained. This was initially deemed a tie and the Mayor cast the deciding vote in favour of the motion. Under the Township’s Procedural By-law, an abstention is required to be recorded as a vote in the negative. The motion therefore received three votes against and two votes in favour and should have been declared defeated.

The Township will bring this matter forward at the next regular meeting of Council to correct the official record.

As a result, the Township will not be publishing the Integrity Commissioner’s report on its website or creating an online register of Integrity Commissioner reports as proposed in the motion.

The report was included in the publicly available Council agenda, which satisfies the Township’s statutory obligations under the Municipal Act with respect to making the report available to the public.

We recognize that members of the public attended last night’s meeting and that others watched the proceedings online. We are providing this clarification to ensure that the public is aware of the procedural error and the resulting outcome.
