From our fire family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope your long weekend is filled with good food, great company, and plenty to be grateful for. We are thankful every day for the community we get to serve and the people who support us in doing it.

Enjoy the turkey, enjoy the time with your people, and please, for the love of Pete, do not burn that turkey. We are happy to help, but we hope not with that.

Happy Thanksgiving, Beausejour Brokenhead.

With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of our Board Member and friend, Doug Popowich, who passed away on Friday, October 2.

Doug was a lifelong member of the Waterhen community and dedicated many years to serving others. He spent 30 years with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, working with communities, fire departments, and Councils throughout the North. For the past five years, he proudly served as Mayor of the Waterhen Community Council.

Beyond his years of service, Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community member.

We are grateful for Doug’s dedication, leadership, and the many ways he contributed to his community. His presence, kindness, and commitment to others will be deeply missed.

Our sincere condolences to Judy, his children and grandchildren, his family, friends, and the entire Waterhen community.

Rest peacefully, Doug. Thank you for your years of service and for all you gave to your community.

One of our own needs us and we are showing up.

BBFD firefighter and paramedic Izzy Szustakowski was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Izzy has dedicated her life to showing up for others and now it is our turn to show up for her.

The fire family is exactly that. A family. And we take care of our own.

We are selling Izzy Strong t-shirts in black and pink for $30, with all proceeds going directly to Izzy to help with expenses during this time.

Order here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfo7Je2SioSxMd6sSFHMmUCcmpA-fpDpi48dtW2Z-2lCk3d2w/viewform

Buy a shirt, share this post, and help us remind Izzy that she has an entire community in her corner.

Izzy Strong. 💪🩷

Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and members of the Letellier Fire Department following the passing of Fire Chief Andrew Dixon.
Chief Dixon’s dedication and service to his department and community will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, fellow firefighters, and the entire Letellier Fire Department during this difficult time.
Rest easy, Chief. 🚒

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that the Letellier Fire Department announces the sudden and unexpected passing of our Fire Chief, Andrew Dixon.

Andrew dedicated 19 years of service to the Letellier Fire Department, including 8 years as our Fire Chief. Throughout those years, he gave so much to our department and our community.
Andrew was not only our Chief, but a mentor, a leader, and a friend to so many of us. He played a tremendous role in building and strengthening our department, helping give us the structure and foundation we have today. His knowledge, experience, and wisdom were something we could always count on.

But perhaps what we will remember most was the way he cared about his people. Andrew was often the first to check in, to make sure everyone was okay, both on the fire ground and beyond. He had a kind heart, a genuine concern for others, and a way of making people feel supported and valued.

As we come to terms with this tremendous loss, there are simply no words that feel adequate. We are going to miss his leadership, his wisdom, his humour, his kindness, and his presence around our department more than we can say.

Thank you, Andrew, for 19 years of service, dedication, mentorship, and friendship. Your impact on this department and the people who served alongside you will not be forgotten.
Our deepest condolences go out to Andrew's family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest easy, Chief. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Here is a sample of the conditions our members faced during the Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) seminar this past weekend.
Our members were put to the test, working through large areas of blown-down trees, dead fall everywhere, swampy conditions and thick, dense bush. The terrain made every step challenging and significantly slowed the search process.
The team began searching at 9:30 a.m. Sunday and continued until 2:45 p.m. In those five hours and fifteen minutes, they were only able to search an area approximately one mile by one mile.
That gives you an idea of just how difficult these conditions were. Despite the challenging terrain, our members demonstrated incredible resilience, determination and teamwork to keep moving forward and get the job done.
This type of training prepares our members for the real-world conditions they may face when called upon to assist with a Ground Search and Rescue operation.

This past weekend, three of our members had the opportunity to travel to Victoria Beach to complete their Ground Search and Rescue seminar.
The course was excellent and provided our members with valuable knowledge and hands-on training that will help them respond to search and rescue scenes with the confidence and skills needed to conduct effective searches.
A big thank you to the Victoria Beach Fire Department for their excellent hospitality and for hosting the training. A special thank you to Rob for keeping our members well fed throughout the weekend!
Training like this helps strengthen our department and ensures our members are better prepared to serve our community when called upon.
Great work, everyone!
