Deputy Chief Chad will be SO EXCITED to direct you to the diving board. He’s only this unhappy if you try to sneak on without a wrist band. See you tomorrow!

The Beausejour Brokenhead Firefighters Association is making a splash this week.

We are hosting a FREE swim night at The Splash Pool in Beausejour this Thursday, August 13 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Bring the family, bring your friends, and come cool off with us.

It is free, it is fun, and the pool is a lot more refreshing than a fire truck in August. We will see you there!

Today we honour the service and sacrifice of our brothers, Keith Barrie and Manuel Cuadros.

On the afternoon of July 27, 1995, Keith Barrie and Manuel Cuadros were killed following a collision just outside Beausejour Manitoba, while en route to an emergency medical call. Keith Barrie was killed at the scene after being struck by a semi-truck and Manuel Cuadros succumbed to his injuries two days later in hospital.

Both men proudly served their community as dedicated volunteers with the Beausejour Brokenhead Fire Department and the Beausejour Ambulance Service.

In October 2018, two lakes in northern Manitoba were renamed in honour of Keith Barrie and Manuel Cuadros, ensuring that their service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to their community will always be remembered.

Today, we remember Keith and Manuel with gratitude and respect. Their legacy of selfless service continues to inspire those who answer the call to serve.

A huge thank you to Vipond for their generous donation of a standpipe prop to BBFD!

Vipond has been providing fire detection, suppression, and sprinkler systems across Canada since 1945. They design, install, inspect, and service fire and security systems for all kinds of industries, and they have a Winnipeg office right in our own backyard.

A standpipe prop is a training tool that allows our crew to practice connecting to and operating standpipe systems, which are the built in water supply systems found in larger buildings like apartment complexes and commercial structures. It is the kind of hands on training that makes a real difference when it counts.

We are grateful for partners who invest in the preparedness of their local fire departments. Thank you, Vipond.

At 1749hrs yesterday evening, members responded to a reported structure fire in the RM of Brokenhead.

Flames were visible on arrival. The structure was fully involved and we got to work.

With no hydrants close enough to sustain the water supply we needed, we called in our mutual aid partners at East Selkirk Fire Department. Their crew arrived and worked side by side with ours through the evening and into the night. Between the two departments, we threw everything we had at it.

Our members returned home to their families just before 1 AM.

A sincere thank you to East Selkirk Fire, Oakbank & Beausejour RCMP, and EMS for their support on this one. And a big thank you to RM of Brokenhead Public Works for getting an excavator to the scene. That kind of support makes a real difference and we do not take it for granted.

At 0339hrs, members responded to a reported structure fire at Brokenhead Sausage.

False alarm. They are just that dedicated. Brokenhead Sausage smokes their meat around the clock, and at 3:39 in the morning, that looks a lot like a fire call.

No fire. Just really good sausage in the making.

Congratulations to Fire Cadet Bradley Germain on receiving the 2025 Robert Rittwage Memorial Scholarship!

Bradley was presented with the $500 scholarship by Fire Chief Dean Mineault, Beausejour Brokenhead Firefighters Association President Mike Rodrigues, Vice President Shane Robinson, and BRCF Board Member Peytyn Christensen-Turner.

The Robert Rittwage Memorial Scholarship was established by the Beausejour Brokenhead Firefighters Association in memory of former Deputy Chief Bob Rittwage, who we lost to occupational cancer. Bob was a beloved member of this department and this community, and this scholarship is one of the ways his legacy lives on. It is presented annually to a fire cadet and/or a graduating student pursuing a future in emergency services.

Bradley, you have worked hard and you have earned this. We are proud of you and we cannot wait to see where you go from here.
