We have gone through our Firefighter Friday options until our next hiring so today we’re doing Fire Safety Friday!
Brooks Fire responded to an electric scooter fire for the first time yesterday. This fire was caused by a mouse chewing through the charging cord which created a short circuit. In this case, little damage was done to the home, however, this is a great opportunity to remind those in our community with electric scooters that there is always a small risk when charging batteries in your home. Caution should be taken to make sure the charging cords aren’t frayed or damaged. Thankfully this particular device was not inside the home when it caught fire, we encourage electric scooter owners to charge their units in as safe of an area as possible to prevent other items or flammable materials from being involved!

👩‍🚒Fire Practice Night🧑‍🚒

Last fire practice, Brooks Fire worked on blocking off sprinkler systems. There are different ways to close active sprinklers without completely shutting down the system, in this case Brooks Fire Members utilized wood wedges to block off individual heads. This is an important skill for a number of reasons, a few of them being:

1. Blocking off sections of sprinkler heads where fire has been put out can help reduce water damage to structures. Stopping water flow in one area without completely shutting off the water also allows the system to continue fire suppression in other areas of a structure that are still on fire.

2. When sections of a structure are subjected to heavy steam or smoke in the air due to water contacting areas of high heat, it can be helpful to temporarily shut off water supply so firefighters can conduct searches for remaining smaller fires in the area. Blocking sprinkler lines is also helpful when conducting overhaul in a structure, as open sprinklers can create a messy or extremely wet environment to work through.

3. Firefighters may also need to block off sprinkler lines to repair or isolate broken lines in a structure, this happens from time to time in cases where sprinkler heads malfunction or experience high heat and are set off accidentally.

For practice night purposes, this sprinkler drill was conducted because it was a nice hot evening and there aren’t many better ways to cool down than trying to stop a constant flow of water over top of your head!

🔴Grass Fire Response🔴

– August 2

At 4:39 p.m., crews responded to a reported 4-acre grass fire.

Responding units included our new Rapid Response Unit 222, Rapid Response 204, Tender 210, Engine 218, and Engine 219.

Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of all crews on scene, the fire was knocked down rapidly, helping prevent further spread. Firefighters worked hard in challenging conditions due to fence’s to bring the incident under control safely and efficiently.

Great teamwork by everyone involved!!

The wait for the exciting news is over! We are pleased to announce the addition of our newest truck, Rapid Response Unit 222, to the hall. Built by Commercial Emergency Trucks, this truck was fitted with all the bells and whistles you might want or need out in the prairies fighting fires. Technically known as the Fire Line Quick Attack Pro, Unit 222 has a 400 gallon tank, 78 cubic feet of usable dry storage, electric return one inch hose reel at 150 feet in length, multiple hand lines, foam capabilities, a front monitor, a front mounted Warn winch and much more! Brooks Fire members got to check the truck out at practice on Tuesday evening and learn the ropes before putting it to work. Brooks Firefighters and our Brooks Fire Chiefs are excited to have this rig in the bay!

Bike patrols allow officers to better connect with the community, patrol trails and park areas, and respond quickly to keep parks and paths a safe and enjoyable place for everyone.
