Thank you for being good neighbours. With all of the snow, please check that your exhaust vents from your appliances are clear and while you have your shovel in hand keep those fire hydrants cleaned out too.

♻️⚠️Proper Disposal Alert: Lithium-Ion Batteries ⚠️♻️

Lithium-ion batteries continue to cause dangerous incidents in recycling systems across Ontario — and in our own facility.

When these batteries are crushed, punctured, or compacted during collection and processing, they can ignite without warning. Fires spread fast in recycling environments, putting our drivers, operators, equipment, and community at risk.

🚒 The reality:

🟡Fires caused by batteries don’t always happen immediately
🟡They can smoulder inside trucks or sorting equipment
🟡By the time flames appear, damage is already done

⚠️ If it plugs in, lights up, or charges — it does NOT belong in your wheelie bin.

This includes:

🟠Vapes & e-cigarettes
🟠Power tools
🟠Rechargeable toys
🟠Electronics & battery packs

✅ The safe solution:
Lithium-ion batteries must be taken to an approved drop-off location — never placed in recycling or garbage bins.

Find a nearby drop-off by entering your postal code here:

Effective January 1, 2026, changes to the Ontario Fire Code will now require working carbon monoxide alarms on every level of the home and outside all sleeping areas.

01/04/2026

You asked, we have answers.
On January 1, Ontario will require carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to be installed adjacent to each sleeping area and on each storey of your home, if your home has:
• a fuel burning appliance
• a fireplace
• an attached garage
• receives its heated air from a fuel burning appliance that is located outside of the home

Why? Because CO is invisible and odourless. You won’t know it’s there, but your alarm will.
It’s the law. Skirting the rules risk charges and fines, and most importantly, it risks lives.
If you haven’t installed your CO alarms yet, now’s the time.
No CO and smoke alarms = no protection.
If you’re unsure of what you need, we’ve made it simple. Everything’s at Ontario.ca/COSafety.
